Hi guys, looking for some advice because I’m starting to lose confidence in the workshops diagnosing my oil leak.

Car is a 2016 BMW F30 320i with the B48 engine. I’ve already been to two workshops and had several items replaced, including the water pump, expansion tank/cooling parts, main pulley oil seal and other seals. I’ve attached the previous invoices in the last two photos.

The oil leak still comes back. What I’ve noticed is that after driving the car and then leaving it parked for 2–4 days, I can get a fairly noticeable amount of oil underneath the car. It seems worse after the car has been sitting/cooling down, although I’m not sure if that’s actually related.

I recently took it to another BMW specialist for a health check. They say the leak appears to be coming from the oil level sensor / oil level sensor gasket area, and I’ve attached their photos and quotation as well.

Does this diagnosis look believable from the photos? Would you replace the whole oil level sensor, or could it simply be the gasket/O-ring? Are there any other common B48 leaks in this area that could be mistaken for an oil level sensor leak?

Just trying to avoid replacing more parts without actually solving the leak. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I need some advice from BMW owners or mechanics.

My car is a 2016 BMW 320i with the B48 engine. About three weeks ago, after the car had been parked for several days while I was overseas, I returned and noticed that it was leaking oil.

I brought it to my regular mechanic and asked him to inspect everything properly. He said the engine/front section was taken apart and cleaned so they could trace the leak. According to him, the problem was the main pulley oil seal and an engine front cap.

I was charged:

• Main pulley oil seal: RM290

• Engine front cap No. 10: RM170

• Labour: RM510

• Total: RM970

After collecting the car, I drove it for only about two days before travelling overseas again. The car was then parked and unused for approximately one week. When I returned, I found that it was leaking again while parked.

The electronic engine-oil measurement still says the oil level is OK, but there is clearly fresh fluid leaking underneath the car.

Based on the attached invoice and photos:

1. Is RM970 a fair price for this repair?

2. Does the work shown actually require removing the entire engine, or were only the front components removed?

3. Could the replacement seal have been installed incorrectly, or could the original leak have been misdiagnosed?

4. Could another issue, such as excessive crankcase pressure/PCV failure, cause the new seal to leak again?

5. Should the mechanic rectify this under workmanship warranty, or is it genuinely possible that a completely different leak appeared immediately afterward?

I’m not trying to accuse the workshop without evidence. I just want to understand whether this is normal bad luck, an incomplete diagnosis or poor workmanship before I approve any further repairs. Thank you.
