Based training crash course question for a HS/MS CC team

So I took over as a MS/HS CC coach for a small team/school at the end of last school year. Was not able to get a summer training thing going but I know most of the kids. They'll work hard. That said, we start practice today and have a meet next Thursday. I'm curious how other coaches/runners would handle training in this situation or if they have any experience with it. Doing a crash course base training, basically. Ideally the kids would have been doing base training runs all summer and then we'd start ramping with more tempo/speed workouts. But I won't really know where everyone is at until practice starts. So I'm trying to find a middle ground of base training but also getting them ready to race as the season goes on.

My general idea is mostly doing 30-40 minute easy/conversational training runs most of the time with 2 fartlek type runs. Probably both Tuesdays. Leave this Wednesday as a recovery/strength day and see where everyone is at. Seem reasonable? Not worrying about results for a bit. Assuming I should hold off on sprint stuff for a little bit. Meets will be speed/tempo workouts. Thanks!

Stretching/Mobilities Routines

What's your post-practice stretching/mobility routine that I can steal? How often are you doing core workouts? (I'll take that to steal too) Thank you!

Experiences with vanguard and/or chariots as "teacher shoes"

Apologies if this has been asked already but curious how those shoes hold being worn all day/every and walking around. Been an New Balance 574 person but those shoes have been getting crappier year after year. I generally like to run with a bit of cushion but don't love walking around with clunkier/poofy shoes at school all day. My other thought is just going with Ghosts as my school shoes.

UA Uniform Tops

Anyone have any experience/information/takes on the UA tops for high school kids? I got thrown into ordering new uniforms and there doesn't seem to be any good way to see what these things look like in real life. We're looking at the "showtime fitted singlet" for ours.

Newbie HS coach question regarding shorts for HS teams

We're redoing our uniforms and have black shorts for both boys and girls. Generally speaking, can kids wear whatever shorts they want if they all match? I'm thinking like girls wearing a mix of tights/shorts if they have their own tights, for example. I coach in Wisconsin, if that helps.

Program building advice/ideas

So I'm taking over as the HS/MS XC coach at a very small school (two very small schools with our sports together, to be precise) in central Wisconsin starting this summer. There were maybe 8 kids in total between HS and MS last year and since I'm in the building as a teacher and also coach MS track, I've been able to get a good number of kids out. But there is also no real "program" or "team" as far as I can tell. What sort of program building/processes/organizational things do you swear by as a coach or experienced in your XC career. Thanks!

Help me pick a lane for non digital as possible content delivery for history classes

Probably similar to many other teachers, I'm trying to revamp some of my delivery processes to get off Chromebooks as much as possible. I also made a lot of my units very inquiry based due our state standards but I'm realizing I probably have to hit basic learning skills more/better in my classes. I already do mostly/a lot of image/map/document analysis but I need to do a better job of covering the narrative history . My government class is a little easier to set up with concepts/vocab that way.

So what do people feel like is the best way to "cover" the narrative history? Short to mid level lecture? Read a section of a book and take notes? Do you do certain days where you just cover the narrative history part of the unit or are you just doing a little bit of that every day to set up the context of your lessons? The answer is probably a mix of both but I guess I feel like kids just need to sit down to read a section of a textbook and take notes on it. But that also takes class time. Anything will help! Thanks!

Vocab For History classes

So I'm trying to write down some stuff I want to work on for next year and one of them is focusing on vocab work a bit more. For people who teach history classes, what do you consider "vocab" for your units? Are they people/place/things type stuff? Or like, more english class vocaby words? It's a little more simple for my Citizenship/Geography class with vocab. Thanks!
