Spots with a lot of ants close to town centre?

Bit of an odd question, I know. I got into ant keeping and with mating season having begun, I'm looking for convenient spot to catch a queen. Does anybody know any place not too far from town centre with large, active populations of ants?

What am I looking at?

I spoted a group of winged ants and workers bundled together, just by what looks like nest entrance Are these male alates waiting to fly when the sun goes down a little?
