Skeletonized forged edc knives

Hey guys thought I’d show off a few skeletonized edc style knives I made recently. The knives are forged from leaf spring then I filed out the inside of the handle. The filing took absolute ages but it think it came out pretty well. Let me know what you think.

Couldn’t have done this if I tried

So is it possessed or does it kill the possessed?

ThermoWorks RFX issues

A little over a year ago, I purchased the rfx system with a probe based on the constant praise they get on this sub. To be honest it’s one of the worst purchases I’ve made from anything in my life. The device arrived defective. Unable to connect. Warrantied the transmitter and was replaced and working. The probe then went out a few months later. They do not tell you there are 4 sensors on the probe and if any of them reach over 200F it will kill your warranty. Anyway my battery was shot on this probe and lo and behold I had a cook or two that showed one or two probes reaching 210-220. Ok sure chalk it up to user error but I really think that low of a temp should not cook something like this so easily. Since then, I’ve been very careful of my temps and have changed the default settings to show all temps on display. I’ve never even come close to 200 and will remove them if the cook calls for temps close. Anyway my next probe lasted maybe a month or two and had more battery issues. It would die in around the 3 hour mark making it almost useless for most cooks. I called customer support and guess what, another defective piece. Got a replacement. I just started my 3rd or 4th cook with the replacement and the probe will not maintain connection to the rfx transmitter at all. It’s no more than a foot and a half away. Tried charging it, tried it in another charging block. Put it back in the meet and it registered for about 30 minutes and went inactive again. Battery shows fully charged. This is honestly ridiculous and I’m so tired of constantly dealing with this company’s product. Sure the customer service is good, but 4 faulty products in the span of about a year is not just coincidence.

AEBL impurities?

Hi guys, I’ve been working on finishing an AEBL chef knife today and have spent a good few hours hand sanding. I eventually uncovered these specks on the side. I never saw them initially, they only appeared after going over in 300 grit. Knife was always up on my sanding station so it wouldn’t have been dropped or clamped on some grit. I tried to get a fingernail or dental pick to bite on it to confirm it isn’t a scratch or divot and nothing does. Purely flat. I’ve been at this one spot for an hour plus and gone through a whole sheet cut in 1.5” strips without an end in site. I even got frustrated and put some dings in the side with a carbide hammer and was able to get the dings out in no time just for comparison sake. Anyway my question is, has anyone seen something like this in their steel or any I going crazy here?

Forged Bowie/hunter

Been enjoying forging a bit more recently. Even though temps are getting back up there. Good stress reliever from work. Planning to hammer out a few smaller ones this weekend.

Normalizing stock removal blades

I usually normalize and anneal my forged knives but was wondering if there is any benefit to normalizing stock removal? I know they come previously annealed so I assume there isn’t a need to also normalize. Anyone out there know if I should be normalizing before heat treat?

Hi all, I never really had the intention of selling knives but I was invited to a maker show about 4 months ago and after some convincing I decided to give it a try. Since then I’ve been really working to make some knives I thought people might like and purchased a few things for a table. I’ve made business cards but do not have a makers mark yet. Something I’ll work on soon. I’m going to bring a few of my everyday use knives for examples of patina and what to expect from high carbon knives as well. The show is tomorrow and I’m a bit nervous. To be honest I don’t have the highest of expectations but would be absolutely thrilled if I sold even one. I mocked up the table at my house and added pictures here for reference. I know we have some incredible makers here and would really appreciate any advice.
