This deep dive is on 🌸🌱🪨 root combo that Ellie Jean has called "the Cosy Girl". Her suggested muses are Zoe Sugg and Gabriella Montez( High school Musical). Both are good examples of mixing sweet and delicate 🌸elements, with texture and flow of 🌱 and the grounded practicality and cosiness of 🪨. 🌸🌱🪨 can lean into sporty, girly, granola like style, it can be grungy and girly, leaning more into casual ease and an undone and urban quality. It may look academic, urban with a girlish charm and delicacy. It can also starts to take on a sunny vibe through a 🌸🌱 combo and have a touch of 🪨 to keep it from being too wild. It is important that it has a touch of whimsy, a youthful and joyful quality, it can lean into a trendy/cool vibe and it generally isn't too tidy/streamlined or it loses the playfulness and ease. I can see this combo leaning into a girl next door, laid back California girl style and taking quite a bit of inspiration from Free People line of clothing. Some muses who play with this combo would be Marissa Cooper( The OC), Belly Conklin( The Summer I Turned Pretty), Diana @sekundenglyck. Recently, I have been reflecting on some of the things I used to do to add fun into my outfits- things that felt a bit girly, whimsical, nostalgic and joyful but not too bold or fancy. I'm trying to put aside the pragmatism that I have settled into with my style and add back in the special, joyful qualities that used to excite me. I am in the RD quadrant and especially connected to resonance and have to do this in a considered and comfortable way for me. I realized that my favourite color as a child was purple- it always felt a bit magical, it often came with a sparkle (eyeshadow or a top with a metallic unicorn print) or added that special touch of youthful enthusiasm.

I started with thrifting the greyed down, muted shade of purple in a t shirt, which made me want to add in shades of green, blue or metallics to add contrast and shimmer. I'd wear it with denim or my favourite green pants or layered over dresses for a fun look. The purple spread to accessories like socks, a claw clip and continued with a shoe, a flirty ruched tank top and a pretty ring and ties in nicely with some other pinky purple items I have.

I created a moodboard to express the desire to bring in a bit more delicacy, whimsy and girlish charm but in a way that felt approachable, delicate, radiant and supports the ease I crave in my outfits. It feels a bit more moody, feminine and introspective overall but supports the relaxed, organic, soft, playful and grounded desires I have at the same time.

The simplicity and soft formality of 🍄, the textural components of 🌱(which can create softness, ease, sensuality or strength) and 🌙 that shift the mood(from dark and edgy to muted, ethereal and introspective) can create so many variations on how this combo may present. All three roots can mix to create softness and a touch of whimsy, lean into an edgy or darker academic vibe, be streamlined, cohesive but rich in texture, utilize vintage elements, lean more fiery or formal, or create a feeling of more casual ease.

Since Ellie Jean was focused on darker, edgier, earthy vibes her celebrity muse was Karen Sirko( Daisy Jones and the Six). I can see that working but I have a list of more varied celebrity muses that could offer some inspiration (disclaimer: some of these muses could have different root combos based on intentionality, be harder to categorize due to using a wider variety of roots overall- like Dakota Johnson.)

Muses include Elizabeth Olsen, Sandra Bullock( plus character Sally Owens in Practical Magic), Clemence Poesy, Amber Heard, Lucy Hale, Sabrina( Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Kelsey Goodrich and Sophia Bush. I have images of Mara Hruby and Dakota Johnson here though they seem to pull from a lot of root combos.

I have created slightly different collages today, one that leans a bit more academic ormoody "Parisian", one that is a bit more casual and undone and one that leans a bit more floaty with a sense of moderated whimsy.

I'm currently not at home to create the perfect green outfit as I'm travelling but for anyone who has seen one of my moodboards or outfits- my love of green should come as no surprise.

Green feels like an unusual power color, but as someone who is RD it really helps me connect to nature, feel open to connect with others and offers me a sense of calm. It provides me ease and a sense of groundedness in darker, neutral shades like olive, playfulness in layering of lighter, brighter and softer shades and it can create a muted softness that blends other colors together( like greyed down shades in the Tibi color wheel). It is rare that green doesn't make an appearance in one of my outfits as a lot of my outerwear, bags and accessories have green in them.

I enjoy how 🌱 can bring in a variety of touches to soften and at times intensify the dramatic put together energy of 🏔️🔥. It can add vintage touches, intricate fabrics, rustic or western influences, slow flow, 70's elements, academic strength and also the ability to lean into the creative and edgy elements of 🌙 and ☀️.

I have a list of other people who could loosely inspire people interested in this root combination like Yoyo Cao, Alexis Badiyi, Ben Cobb, Iman Abdulmajid, Shailene Woodley, Sarita Choudry(plus her character Seema Patel in And Just Like That), Maru Mendez, Connie Britton(plus character Rayna James in Nashville), Aimee Song, @Quida_ and Beth Dutton (Yellowstone). Some of the more tailored, sensual and earthy toned boho Chloe looks also seem to apply here.

I'd also say that Selena Gomez character Mabel Mora( Only Murders in the Building), when dressed less ☀️ can give off this root combo since 🔥 is such a strong root of Selena's.

This was a fun exercise, I struggled a little to find something I liked for cocktail attire but found business formal to be the most challenging. I have width and curve so blazers are a bit challenging and tighter fits for pants and skirts feel too revealing/sexy. I prefer softer draped items like coatigans, soft sweaters and wrap tops or lightly structured long line vests/ coats and cropped lady jackets with trousers in softer warm tones. I gave up finding exactly what I was looking for and chose this: minimal, some ease in the fit and I thought it was visually interesting. The Reem Acra gown Olivia Wilde is one of my favourite gowns of all time.

I think these outfits suit my roots of 🍄🌱🪨 and body type of wide, medium/short and round.

Today was the first rainy, cool day in a while and we had friends coming over for a kids playdate and tea and scones. I decided to wear my new lounge set that I had purchased for a cozy fall feel while still having some cohesive energy and fun detailing that feels good to me in the RD quadrant. It is my favorite color, has mixed textures of waffle knit and smoother cotton, with an oversized, slouchy shape and a sculptural shaped pant leg. I wore it with my pointelle yellow tee for when/if I got too hot so I'd still have some textural elements and paired it with some gold jewelry. Later on I threw on my clogs and grabbed my bag to do a quick run to the grocery store and library. I'm looking forward to wearing these pieces together and separately- the top with my long length denim jorts especially feels cosy and wearable for transitional weather.

I love the Style Concepts moodboards I have been seeing so I created my own. I am working with 🍄🪨🌱 as my roots with a gentle ☀️ exploration and the 3 words as I'm working with are Relaxed, Playful and Minimal. I have low to medium contrast and think I'm likely a soft autumn, I tend to limit black in my wardrobe and use the Tibi wheel principles, focusing on the greyed down colors in ring three with softer neutrals and a few color pops.

I'm very inspired by nature, spring and summer bring in coastal themes, soft diffused sunlight, movement and reflective elements of water. The cooler months-a touch more cozy, earthy forest shades and textures- ideas I hope to blend together as the season transitions.

Some ideas about how these roots intersect:

🍄🪨 create an approachable ease- balancing sporty elements, cozy details and utilitarianism with a touch of classic polish/prep, cohesion and minimalism. Infuse it with a touch of ☀️to add some color and patterns, unexpected shapes, texture and bold but fun accessories. The streamlined and practical nature of the 🍄🪨 roots tend to keep it from being overly ornate, fussy or maximalist.

🍄☀️can have a fun vintage feel, unexpected details on classic pieces, monochromatic looks, lots of cohesive matching color pops, detailed color matching pulled from patterns, moderated color and pattern mixing and increased formality through texture, shape and detailing. Add in some 🪨 to keep it practical, grounded and provide a casual ease.

🪨☀️ mixes practical elements with eccentric detailing- for a youthful, explorative trendy and urban vibe. Streetwear or sporty elements like statement sneakers, graphic tees, trendy items, intriguing silhouettes, fasteners and fabric choices on more traditional items. Mix in touches of 🍄 for some classic pieces, balance, lightness/ softness and a touch of polish.

Overall I personally love this combo, especially in the outfits where there are textural elements that add a little🌱with the 🍄🪨☀️roots. Ellie Jean's celebrity muse for the root combo is Dita Von Teese who incorporates a base of 1940's Old Hollywood style of tailored structure, soft feminine details with dark, mysterious and an untouchable energy. She can create a lot of sensuality and charm with vintage and retro elements through root interactions to create more drama with🔥and☀️ details. I love her use of color, special adornments on the items and her use of sharp or statement accessories.

The mixing of whimsical, ethereal and delicate details with structured, sharp and edgy elements creates a variety of aesthetics to be inspired by like Haunted doll, Lolita, Southern Gothic, Dark Academia, Film Noir, Rockabilly vibes and soft Goth or incorporating nods to Edwardian or Victorian fashion.

As a member of the RD quadrant I definitely relate more to giving off a Personable vibe rather than creating a Persona. I remember reading that many RD's value " connection over protection" and that is definitely something I relate to - I want my clothes to help me connect and feel appropriate in any given situation. My style is gentle, approachable, with relaxation/ ease in the fit with small quirky, nostalgic or personalized elements to allow me to show up feeling my best. I also think I use external inspiration more literally than those in the left quadrants.

Persona feels like there is an intensity or desire to keep an energetic barrier between the wearer and the audience. It could be for energy conservation, professional distance, artistic expression or showing personality but in a more non conformative way plus many other reasons.

I use the Storyteller as my style muse, so I can understand creating a character or story as a way of challenging myself to try new things. It feels more about finding ways to make it feel intuitive for me, support my lifestyle and allow for a sense of gentle exploration and style growth.

The latest clothing item I wanted to add was a pair of denim Jorts. I was talking myself out of them thinking they were too cool, too trendy for me but I switched the narrative a bit and focused on the fact they excited me, felt a bit nostalgic and that I'm allowed to explore new styles. They suit the relaxed, eclectic mom style I'm cultivating with the casual, relaxed feel, have flow and an interesting silhouette and they made me feel some excitement. I picked a pair lighter colorway that works best for my color palette with an internal drawstring so I can adjust the rise a bit. So far I've enjoyed them with a pointelle tee, an oversized striped long sleeve, a cropped floaty top, a tank and an oversized button down that was barely buttoned over a bathing suit. Mixing them with some of my more reliable pieces and trying to mix them with some more feminine pieces to play with some visual interest but not stretch my comfort level too quickly. They were a great addition to my travel capsule on my recent trip they offered a different silhouette and helped me from feeling bored. Attached are some outfits I've worn, some of the external inspo I sourced for how I wanted to wear them and my coastal summer moodboard.

My July calendar, including the travel capsule I used on a vacation to visit family from the 14th to the 30th. It was a low key vacation full of pool days, visiting, shopping and relaxing- overall quite casual. I had access to laundry and needed to stick to carry on luggage so this is what I brought.

I wore everything except for the joggers( the weather was warm 28-34C and dry) but I like to have a pant option anytime I travel- last year it was cold and rainy for 5 days and I didn't feel prepared. The black and blue tanks and the green sports bra were worn more for exercise and the oversize tee for sleep and once over the dress to protect my shoulders from the sun.

I wish I would have brought a tote bag, I ended up carrying a reusable shopping bag a lot for beach and pool gear and they weren't the best vibe with my outfits.

Overall, I was happy with the capsule- I loved the gentle color palette and flowy coastal feel of the items I chose. I could have left the striped top and the oversize striped button down at home- as they were the least worn but it was nice to have some options.

I was so excited to come home and wear my favorite flowy cotton lyocell pants today with my patterned Vans. Just something a little different....

I really love this combo, the 🌱🪨 can create a relaxed comfort that spans earthy to urban, with touches of skin, sensuality and structure from 🔥. Much like the "Beach Belle" energy from EJR's board.

The 🔥🪨 can give off a slinky "cool girl" feel to be paired with lots of 🌱 texture, patterns/motifs and some undone, floaty energy.

🔥🌱 can lean into romantic ruffles, rich textures a touch of mysticism and undone energy. The casual element of denim, zips/grommets/etc, oversize pieces and a touch of practicality can be adding from stone.

The combos easily leans to touches of ☀️ and 🌙 through the interactions and the earthy quality can allow it to be very casual to more formal/ structured.
