Who would you pick to build the R262?

If The St. Louis Car Company, Pullman Standard, Budd or ACF was still in business, who would you pick and trust to build the R262? And why?

Four the hard way.

The Four way street:

Four Railcar manufacturers are in a battle to secure the largest subway car order in MTA history. Over 2000 new cars. Which one of these Four are the most qualified? Lets start with Kawasaki.

Kawasaki Railcar

-First foreign manufacturer to build railcars for the MTA since 1983

-Help introduced New Tech Trains starting in 1992 with the R110A

-Built over 2000 cars and counting such as the R142A,143,160B R211, and R268.

- 100% made in the USA without relying on Kobe, Japan.

-Plant in Yonkers, New York helping to bring jobs to the state, and perfect proximity to major Transit systems in the Tri state area, Boston, D.C, Baltimore, and Philadelphia.

-Impecable reputation and techincal track record

Alstom

-Building subway cars for the MTA since 1984 as Bombardier such as the R62A,R68, R110B, R142, R179

-Help Introduced the NTT with the R110B in 1992

-Built some of the fastest trains in Europe

-Plant in Hornell, New York helping to employ New Yorkers. Built the R160A subway car

-Extensive subcontractor supply chain and business relationships in NY.

Hitachi

-Plant in Hagerstown, Marylamd

-Built high speed trains in Japan

-Currently builing cars for Baltimore

-Never Built cars for The MTA except work locomotives

-No New York facility.

Hyundai Rotem

-Built the SEPTA Silverliner V for Philadelphia

-No main US facility

-reputation for High Speed rail in South Korea with an extensive R&D technology facility in Changwon

-Never build cars for the MTA

-Extensive capital.

If i had to throw in my prediction, based on the idea that the MTA is open to splitting the contract, Kawasaki would be the prime builder partnered with Alstom. Based on the fact they have plants in New York which create jobs and saves money on delivery cost. If Hyundai or Hitachi wins, they would have to partner with Kawasaki or Alstom based on their lack of experience building heavy railcars for NYC. Alstom And Kawasaki has over 40 years of experience building for the MTA; the toughest transit agency to build for.
