IQ7s not working, but no Envoy..yet

At some point within the last 6 years, a chunk of my PVs stopped producing. I'd added solar since 2012 piecemeal, so I didn't notice until I looked at my annual generation.

In 2019, I had a set of panels installed with Enphase IQ7s(?) installed, but since I had PowerWalls, I figured no need for the Envoy, since I could see the total production on the Tesla app. Looks like that may have been a mistake, as I would have noticed the stoppage.

I saw a post where someone mentioned their Enphase system stopped working until they connected them up and got a firmware upgrade.

I'm looking to add an Envoy system, and hoping that resurrects the microinverters. Or is it possible they're shot? It seems unlikely that only the 12 IQ7 microinverters broke, while the older Enphase and big central inverter all still work.

Thoughts?

Edit: Notes from the electrician who checked out the system
"I checked everything: every jbox, all splices, breakers. all trunk cable connectors, end caps. No problem found. The voltage was good 243V at any point in the circuits. but micros still not producing. I checked DC voltage on several panels, the DC input on inverters was all good 35 VDC. I have a feeling all those IQ7+ micros have fried somehow. The strange thing is that all of them are dead. I can call tech support on Monday. Don't know what else i can do."

Recommendations on Kanji in practice hub?

Do the standard lessons ever "finish" kanji practice found in the practice hub?

Or should I just go back and finish them.

I highly doubt it, but does completing any of them make the respective kanji appear in the actual lessons?

Korolev Cross from "Engineering Camera"

"Engineering Camera" view of a Korolev Cross during SRB separation. The real Korolev Cross was with liquid fueled boosters, not SRBs, like in this rocket. I wanted the cool plumes.

Ideally, the camera wouldn't have movedin, but it seemed to as the center of mass moved as the rocket emptied, so does the camera. I even focused it on a small part hoping that would stop it form happening.

Will N5 / Duolingo 30 score be useful for a tourist?

I studied Japanese decades ago in highschool, and wanted to refresh for an October trip.

I've been using a combination of Anki, Busuu and Duolingo to practice. I'm at Duolingo level 17 now, and hoping to get to 30 before the trip. I'm subscribed to both Busuu and Duolingo Max.

I've found Busuu is better at explaining the grammar and teaches faster, but not so great on review/practice. I've found practice is where Duolingo shines at. Aside from the regular lessons, I've been doing the listening practice in the practice hub a lot. It's slow and repetitive, which I actually appreciate to a point.

For Anki, I've just been making my own deck instead of one downloading the community decks. To improve my listening, I got Ankidroid reading the Japanese out loud. I've also borrowed Level 1 Pimsleur on Libby to do on my commute.

I've also recently started on Wanikani, hoping to improve my kanji. I'm planning to learn at least the common kanji you'll see at the train stations.

Will this be enough so I don't need to have Google Translate out all the time to get around Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto? Maybe even order food and understand the staff?

Landing plume on Mars

First time doing a full mission from Earth to the KSA Duna analog. Did a little lithobraking, and bounced away from the "initial landing zone" where the exhaust plume ended. Got a great view of it.

3D printed replacement TV missiles for 1:48 DX Chogokin VF-1 Valkyrie

While I love the detail on the movie missile pods and reaction missiles, I felt the AMM-1 TV missiles were lacking a bit. For one thing, they didn't have the red color on the back.

So I designed my own version based on the line-art from the Macross Mecha Manual. They're not as smooth with FDM color printing, but I like the detail. The hardpoints, unfortunately are very delicate, and the pegs tend to break off, even with a resin print.

Low Profile version of the DX Chogokin 1:48 Valkyrie storage boxes

I posted this earlier, and people asked for the file. I previously uploaded the original taller version on Cults3d. I'm showing photos of the two to compare, along with a top down image of the boxes to see how all the accessories fit in.

Have you seen the KSA plumes?

As the spiritual successor to KSP, this should be seen.

These are for the SRBs, which aren't in yet, so for testing, you can activate them for the hydrogen engines.

Storage Box / Display platform for GBP-1S Armored VF-1J Valkyrie

This is a 3D printed amor / armament storage box that doubles as a display stand. I included a slot for the included stand, so it can also be used for all modes. Without the stand, you can also place the fighter on its own landing gears.

Edit: I'll put up the STL files for this on Cults3D, probably tomorrow, along with the other matching box designs for the Super Valkyrie, VF-1D, VF-1S, and VT-1 Super Ostrich.

For now, I put up the original version of this box that will print on smaller prints, like my old i3. Just go to Cults3d and do a search for Macross storage box, and you should find it. Linking here might give me a rule violation hit.

Macross 1:48 Display Shelf

I bought an Ikea table, painted it Navy Blue, added some "decals" and made it my display shelf / flight deck for my 1:48 DX Chogokins VF-1 Valkyries.

You can see the original TV inspired Jet Blast Deflector, which isn't nearly as detailed as my newer DYRL version. If I make a DYRL version, I'll need to cut a space out of the table.

I've got my aircraft tractors and missile carts in heavy use, along with YetiForge's M209 Sugarfoot jeep.

Pardon my crude miniature painting. This is why I buy toys, instead of models, and color 3D print when I can.

Note: While the toys are officially 1:48, I made the vehicles and deck crew to match the pilot size, which was about 1:60. At 1:60, the VF-1 at this toy size would be about the size of an F-14 Tomcat, so that kind of tracks. I figure if the animation can't keep scale consistent, I don't need to either.

Most of these files are available if you have a 3D printer.

Guess which missile set is Max's?

The official TV missiles were a bit drab, so I made my own version a bit closer to the animation, color-wise. Hardpoints break easily, though.

Oops, I mixed up DYRL Hikaru and SDFM Roy.

I know the ladder is supposed to come out of the fuselage, but I couldn't print something that small, nor connect it without glue.

Did you guess right?

CP503 Scam (probably)

My elderly mother-in-law, who keeps forgetting to pay various bills, got a "IRS Notice CP503" stating she owed about $4,500 in taxes.

The problem is, we did her taxes on TurboTax, and unless TT messed up, she was due a refund. I've got the PDF records showing this.

The letter gives a QR code for DirectPay, but there's a Forbes article stating the IRS doesn't use QR codes, and the CP503 forms I could find online don't have this QR code section. Also, it looks just like this this reported scam letter

I'll try to contact the IRS just in case, but am 95% sure it's a scam.

Or am I being optimistic?

Edit: Further investigation has shown her refund wasn't processed. I'm guessing this is legit, and we missed a form or something. She originally insisted she didn't get any tax forms at all, and I had to go through her "filing system" consisting of a grocery bag with all the mail / bills she'd received to find any tax forms.

We'll have to look for any previous communications about in the stash. It's been extra chaotic, as she fell and broke her arm a couple of months ago.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

YetiForge's boom truck

YettiForge designed a 1:72 boom truck based on the 1:100 boom truck in the Macross Armored Factory model kit.

I remixed it, scaling it to 1:48, adding color, and recreated the boom arm to make the third section also functional. I also modified the wheels for easier assembly.

I also made a mecha dolly compatible with my aircraft tractors, and based it also on the Armored Factory model kit, with extra details I added in.
