Anyone else’s baby need a “late” bedtime?

My LO is 4 months and night sleep has been tough since 3 months. We do have nights where he’ll go for 4-5 hour stretches in the beginning, which is amazing when it happens.

I noticed that this is nearly always when he goes to bed at 9 pm or later. It’s not the only factor at play but a strong correlation.

I know all the sleep “experts” seem to say to put babies to bed between 6-8 OR ELSE. He does get sleepy and crabby around 7 but when I try to put him to bed then it takes at least an hour for him to settle and he usually wakes up an hour or so later. Vs last night he napped from about 7:15-7:45 and then didn’t go to bed until 9:30 but slept 4.5 hour right away which has been rare lately. Most nights I pray for a 3 hour stretch lol.

Wondering if anyone else has found that their baby just sleeps better with a later bedtime?

OK so what CAN I do to help with frequent night wakings? 4 MO here and we’re struggling.

My son is 15 weeks/ almost four months. Since 12 weeks he has been waking up every 1-2 hours/night and nursing round the clock. I attributed it to a growth spurt/skill development (he started rolling right around then) as well as sleep space transition (we moved him out of his bassinet into a travel crib since he got too big).

But it’s gone on long enough I feel like it’s a pattern and I may be able to take some gentle steps to stretch his night sleep a bit. It’s been very rough for me as I also started work again right around this time (I work from home mainly) and my husband is mostly off night duty because he has a job that really requires rest and is out of the house almost 12 hours/day.

I don’t really know where to start. I’ve sort of avoided the most popular books and content on infant sleep before because I don’t want to sleep train and Ive never been fixated on him sleeping through the night. But now I feel like there’s a whole vocabulary surrounding infant sleep that I lack.

I‘m going to start tracking in huckleberry again just to get a sense of his daytime sleep and if there is something else I can do there?

The details:
He goes to sleep around 7:30/8 pm. Not with us forcing it, that’s just when he gets tired. BUT the one time recently we got a longer stretch was when he didn’t go to sleep until 9:30 pm.

I usually go to bed a little later than him and we both wake up around 6/6:15.

His wake windows have been about an hour ish but he’ll stay up for 2-3 hours before bed.

The past couple days he has been taking a marathon 3-4 hour nap midday, waking up 2-3 times to dream feed during it. He is also napping outside of this, so I am wondering if he’s getting too much daytime sleep? I have never capped or woken him up from a nap intentionally.

We almost exclusively contact nap or carrier nap, and he‘ll usually fall asleep once in the stroller Or occasionally car seat.

We’re going to transition him to a sidecar crib to see if that setup eases the wakeups for me without full bed sharing. If that doesn’t work we’re going to try a floor bed which was my plan for after 6 months anyway.

I prefer not to bed share (I know about safe sleep 7, have friends who have done it, and we do it sometimes out of desperation, but it’s not the right fit for our family).

The only advice I’ve been able to get in real life is from my pediatrician who advised “drowsy but awake” which I’ve read is a myth elsewhere on this sub and essentially cry it out.

I’ve spoken to lactation counselors as well (I EBF) and one of them told me my son “should” be sleeping through the night because he weighs more than 13 lbs and essentially shamed me for over feeding him/ giving him the boob any time he fusses or wakes up.

All my mom friends are either in the same boat or their baby sleeps in a crib in a separate room and they sleep trained.

Hoping for some insights from this sub !

Need help w 3 month old sleep changes

My son is 3 months old and we have been just feeding and sleeping based on his cues since he was born. From around 4-11 weeks or so he was sleeping consistently 4 hour stretches at night. I nurse him side lying and put him back in the bassinet which makes it easier for us both to go back to sleep. Everything was going great in my opinion until the past week or so.

He is outgrowing his bassinet and I’ve been trying to transition him to a pack and play but it hasn’t been going well and most nights he ends up in our bed for some amount of time. I have everything set up as safely as I can for when that happens but I prefer to not bed share as I don’t want to have to lay on my side forever after doing it all pregnancy and it causes me too much anxiety. However last night and the night before he would wake up immediately or very soon after being moved to the bassinet or pack and play, and would fall back asleep as soon as I brought him back into our bed. I thought maybe he was still hungry those times but he would barely latch for a few seconds and pass out and sleep for longer stretches.

We do primarily contact or carrier naps during the day, although he’s started taking a couple naps in the stroller during the heat wave. This sleep change also coincides with him nursing much more frequently (almost every hour) and for longer stretches as well as taking generally shorter naps.

I used Huckleberry in the beginning but I found it felt like a chore and didn’t want to have to have my phone with me all the time to track everything. So I’ve kind of been winging it. But I feel like I need to try SOME sort of strategy and try to get a little more uninterrupted sleep (preferably without resorting to bed sharing). He goes to bed earlier than he used to, around 7:30/8 pm, and his wake windows are about an hour, naps around an hour as well.

I talked to my pediatrician about it and all he said was to lay him down “drowsy but awake” so he learns to self soothe in the long run which doesnt help me right now and is also hilariously unrealistic because if I lay him down slightly awake he will just start crying immediately.

Any suggestions????

Help! My son is outgrowing his bassinet.. do we make an early floor bed transition?

So my son is 3 months old. He sleeps in a bedside bassinet and I side lie nurse him at night in our very firm birch mattress (with all blankets pillows moved safely away in case I fall asleep). We were planning to transition him to a floor bed when he gets older but he is almost too big for his bassinet (over 14 lbs and 2.5 ft long). I have been looking into pack and plays with bassinet attachments so he can still be right next to us but most of them have a weight limit of 15-20 lbs which he’ll surpass very soon!

We are thinking about making the floor bed transition earlier than planned— either by having him in a travel crib on the floor with one of us on a floor bed next to him (I don’t feel comfortable not being able to see him) or by getting a firm floor mattress in which we bed share with him… neither is my preference but it seems to make more sense than getting a bigger bassinet he will only use for a couple more months at most.

experience with this? mattress / travel crib recommendations? TIIA.

Fit Check Boba Ring Sling

Hi all, my mom got us a ring sling and I love how quick it is to put on and also get baby out of when he falls asleep if I need to transfer him to a bassinet. He loves it too and usually falls asleep immediately. But I am struggling with the proper positioning and making sure his legs are in the right place. This was the best I felt I got it but now his legs look weird looking back at the photo. I’ve also tried tucking his legs into the pouch instead of having them hang out, but he hates that and usually fusses.
