44" Long Perforated Steel Boxes
These boxes were free at a garage sale. The owners wanted them gone but didn't know what they were.
They measure 44 1/2" long x 6 1/4" high x 10 1/4" across at the top x 11 1/2" long at the base. They're made from steel and have 5 1/8" holes all over. The bases/bottoms slide open. One has been fitted with additional steel brackets.
I tried using Google lens twice. Once it said these were grill parts and another time it brought me to a reddit post where the top comment was deleted, so not very helpful!
XRF Gun Discussion - Recommended Models?
I'm considering buying an XRF gun for my business this year. Have any owners here purchased one recently? I also have more questions:
- What brand and model did you go with?
- Did you buy it outright or lease it?
- Did you have any issues with not having the right libraries to handle the material you deal with?
I'm also looking for input from workers who use one regularly. Features you really like or don't like about certain models.
Granny's Greatest Treasure - A Flipping Tale (NSFW)
About 11 years ago I went to an estate sale that was an actual proper liquidation - everything in the house was up for grabs, including the appliances and food in the cupboards. I got there shortly after the sale opened, and the usual frenzy of the dregs of humanity was in full swing. People were ripping things out of each other's hands, arguing with each other, spilling the contents of drawers on the floors, and wiping dust and rodent excrement off of everything. Because the usual crowds were in the kitchen and master bedroom, I took a quick detour into the downstairs bathroom and storage closets to see if anything was there. Tucked away in the corner of one shelf with some rolled up towels I found a large kraft-type mailer that had some weight to it and thought to myself "there must be something good in here!"
I opened it up and it was a huge dildo.
Now, I'm sure my opinion is skewed because of my own personal reference, but this thing was quite large, about the size of an old Maglite powered by D-cell batteries. If you got hit over the head with it, you probably wouldn't be getting up anytime soon.
I took my find to the executor running the estate, an attorney who was in her 60s.
Me "I found this and I don't think it's something you want to be selling at this sale."
Her "I don't know what that is."
I tilted my head and kept as serious a face as possible as if to say "really?" and she accepted the package.
This definitely stands out as one of my favorite flipping memories.
I also found a copy of Dogfight by Milton Bradley, which I have owned and sold before, so keep an eye out for that board game.
