Just how toxic is the online competitive shooter and MOBA experience?

Online shooters and MOBA's are two genres I have many reasons not to be interested in.

My aim sucks, I like to pause, list goes on.

That said, I do enjoy watching people play them and do have a passing interest in getting into them, but regardless of all the things I dislike about the actual games, my biggest deterrent from the genre are the players themselves.

It's funny seeing clips and hearing stories about them and everyone making fun of League of Legends players, but the idea of being there myself and dealing with it does not sound like fun at all.

Thus leads to my question: Is it really that bad?

Is it exaggerated? Or a case of "people only talk about it when it gets bad but normally it's pretty chill"? Or is it a pipeline where by the time you reach the toxicity, you've already adapted to it by that point? ...or is it really just that bad?

This was expected to be seen for Ryoshu's Canto, but since >!The House of Spiders take place in the Corridors!<, that didn't happen.

The closest Japanese group I know is the Kurokumo Clan, a syndicate.

Japan is way too influential of an irl country and culture to not have a Wing and District equivalent. So if it's not been seen, I expect it still exists and will be introduced some day, but perhaps not anytime soon.
