Hot water useless

So my question is about washing clothes with hot water, is it good or actually anyhelpful?, my only knoledege about it is tv shows, and you always see clothes after it getting smaller, so I don't know, is there any real reason to use hot water instead of cold water for washing?.

I hate how hormones have made me gain weight. I've gained about 16 kg (35 lbs), and what's worse is that now it's so hard to lose weight. I haven't seen any progress in a couple of months, and it used to be so much easier for me to lose weight, but now it's mission impossible. And then the worst part of all is that a lot of my nice clothes don't fit anymore, and I'm like, what the heck am I going to do with them? Of course, hormones have helped me in other ways, but at the same time, they've made me so insecure and frustrated with my weight.

I wish adults were more like children. A few days ago, I got into the elevator in my building, and a little girl, about seven years old, saw me and proceeded to ask her mother, literally, out loud: "Is that person a man or a woman?" To which her mother replied: "she is a woman." Then the girl asked: "Why do her have a mustache if women don't have mustaches?" (I wasn't wearing makeup, and you can still the shadow.) Then the mother said: "yeah, she's a girl, some have that." After that, the conversation ended, but I was amazed at how well the mother handled the situation. She was respectful and tried to teach her daughter the best way possible. I honestly felt a little bad for the mother because she was like: "We shouldn't be talking about other people like that in front of them." And you could really see how the little girl had genuine, innocent curiosity and just wanted to understand.
