Is the Florida route in being a RDH worth it?

Hi everyone,

I’m a dentist who just graduated in the Philippines (yippee me) and I also have dual US citizenship. I’m currently exploring career options in the US and came across the Florida route for foreign-trained dentists to become a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH).

For those who have gone through this pathway or know someone who has:

\- Is becoming an RDH in Florida worth it for a foreign-trained dentist?
\- How difficult was the application and licensing process?
\- If you could do it again, would you choose the RDH route or go straight for an Advanced Standing/DDS program?

I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially from dentists who graduated outside the US.

(My parents just want me to be in the US because most of my siblings and relatives live there)

Planning to be a dental hygienist in the US as a potential Filipino dentist

Hello! I'm an incoming 4th-year student, and I'm having trouble with my life decisions. I'm originally a US citizen, and I need advice on whether I should graduate with a DMD here, take the boards, and then go to the US and study an additional 2 years in a dental or dental hygiene program. Or if I should stay and work here in the Philippines.

It's taking a toll on me that I'm studying a lot just to migrate and be able to work, while if I had chosen nursing in the first place, I would be working right now.

My other ridiculous idea was to switch to nursing before I even consider going further into dentistry, just because I’m overwhelmed by the costs. Just need genuine advice, ty
