Hi everyone,

I'm currently running the mandatory 14-day closed beta test for Somnambient, but to meet Google Play's production requirements, I really need more active engagement (testers who keep the app installed and play some ambient sounds or test sessions occasionally).

What is Somnambient?

Somnambient is a minimal, distraction-free ambient noise and sleep companion designed to help you focus, relax, and wind down:

  • Custom Ambient Soundscapes: Seamlessly mix granular audio loops, natural textures, and gentle white/pink noise.
  • Smart Sleep Timer & Fades: Set gentle auto-pause timers with smooth audio fades so nothing interrupts your rest.
  • Minimal, Dark-First Interface: Ultra-clean aesthetic built to be easy on the eyes at night.
  • Lightweight & Offline-Ready: No heavy background battery drain or intrusive clutter.

What I need from you:

  1. Keep the app installed for the next 14 days.
  2. Open the app and run a sound session a couple of times a week.
  3. If possible, drop a quick review or private feedback on Google Play!

How to Join:

  1. Join the Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/somnambient-sleep-app
  2. Opt-in as a tester (Web): https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.somnambient.sleep
  3. Download on Google Play (Android): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.somnambient.sleep

(Note: After joining the Google Group, please allow about 2–3 minutes for the Play Store link to become active.)

Thank you so much for helping an indie dev out!

Introducing Matilda Cartesia Arp engine (beta), inspired by VCV Cartesia by CV Funk

Matilda Cartesia

UI

Heres a brief demo of Matilda, this is a demo video for a UI competition i participated in, but includes a demo of it proof of concept. Let me if you can use this into your workflow. I basically created this for my ambient music making focused on creating arps.

It records midi- has jitter and probability triggers to create some degree of controlled unpredictability. This is just the phase one i have completed.

On phase two will include more features like polyphony and presets. Looking forward to your feedback, if really required will share the github link. atm i have yet to test for VST in windows as this demo is in MacOS for Garageband.

Vibecoded a music plugin(arp enigne) "Matilda" for artist/musician insipred from VCV Cartesia.

Hello folks below is a demo of standalone app from my Mac(garageband), where in users/artists can create musical sequences or motifs for their musical pieces. It ports to another vst for sound (source of sound).

Since i had the designs ready(me being a product designer), i wanted to take this further and actually see what is AI capable of and to what point can i push it. This is fairly a complicated idea but implementing this not impossible or so i thought. Having vibe coded another simple piano VST(see previous post), i knew it had its challenges with backend architecture or tech stack i used- having moved from multiple architecture choices like from purely sample based to physical modelling, it was simply hard in getting the timbres right of a grand piano along with other challenges like key pressing issues, midi extrapolation, random crashes.

For this luckily most of the code was already available as open-source for its driving the arp engine. I used Cursor as my choice of IDE and JUCE framework to power the engine and UI repainting all within JUCE.

Since this had so many moving parts, i thought i would rather form a plan of building components first and then build module by module. I referenced my design system through Figma MCP, and asked it to build it on React first before extrapolating to C++. This was to see UI's POC if it can actually pull it off. Once it was done, i let cursor make a separate barebones wireframe with basic but critical functionalities to only check its functionalities. Up until this point all was done in Fable 5, but soon ran out of credits. It mostly on-shotted most of it and followed me without any hitch, which was crazy. Once this was done, i had to connect the UI with the backend. Of course that took its own back and forth, because then that also involved making everything on JUCE. And then i had to do everything again all at once to get the UI right, built it module by module. I felt it was kinda rework wherein it was unable to take the React made UI and keep everything the same when re-writing to JUCE.

So yes, it was not as straightforward. It was quite frustrating. But this too i believe came out better than i had expected with some patience. Perhaps i should have just started out with JUCE.

Now that its ready, but its still a work in progress, wherein as a UX person i am still figuring out how can i provide the wonders of semi-generative music that Cartesia provides and abstract that mental model and better translate to VST friendly interface removing the cable complications. Also future enhancements would involve Rive for state driven animations(anybody ever tried it?).

Do let me know how you find the design? Would love to hear your thoughts if any. Thanks for stopping by!

[Research] Trying to create a VST equivalent for module Cartesia by CV funk. What do you think?

hi Folks, i am planning to design the interface for Cartesia module. But i wanted to know first before even diving into it, i wanted to understand what features should be focused on priority and scope to best emulate the mental model of users using it. Since this is not a typical step sequencer for any DAW users, i want this to be equally fun for all types of users from beginner to advanced. So that user can start making interesting pattern from the get-go.

Below are some of the features i plan to take up -

  1. Movements in all three axis. Variety of movements like forward, reverse, ping-pong, random skips etc.
  2. Cell on/off toggle.
  3. Probability based cell-triggers.
  4. Jitter for semi-generative evolving patterns.
  5. Quantise to scales-
    1. Randoms for Z1-4 axis for quick

Of course since this is a vst version so some features and its myriad of modalities could be limited like how external step sequencers could used as triggers to affect axes movements through CV inputs(perhaps i can use various algos like Turing machine but idk).

TBH i am still not sure how to go about the UI decisions like deciding of providing dropdowns or button for certain functionalities, things like that. This is a passion project i am trying to make e2e.

Would love to hear your inputs or feedback or concerns on UI or functionality to best go ahead with. Thanks!

First UI draft.

Any tips on how to increase NPS collection?

Hello folks i am new to this group, so pardon me if i erred on any part. I am a mid level UX professional given a task to increase NPS collection. Do note that its not NPS improvement but rather the collection of NPS through various entry points. It is for a LLM chatbot that our telecom organisation has implemented into their super app. It was earlier a rule based NER bot and now an LLM.

Now since the change of its logo(right after LLM roll out), the entry point into the chatbot has taken a massive hit and has been reduced by almost 50%. Business demands that we need to collect NPS in every response or troubleshoot query flows. I have ceratin doubts-

  1. There are certain responses where the user is taken outside of chat - so whats the best possible way to collect NPS for such scenarios?
  2. Should NPS collection be more upfront about follow-up questions right at the end of journey? Technical challenge is we sometimes cannot identify end of journey for certain flows.
  3. How do we tackle such UX problems, has anybody faced something like this before?

I understand that it needs to be as subtle and non-intrusive while users are more focused on task based actions to have their queries resolved -so ideally at the end of the

Wanted feedback on my Vibe-coded VST for mac.

Hello guys i made a music VST for mac with open source repo, and i was wondering if anybody has ever (vibe)coded a vst. I took reference and help of Taches' videos on Youtube for this project. I know this might be a very niche project, and not many can provide feedback, just incase if anybody does create music on computer(mac) then would love to hear your feedback, if you can provide.

Figma UI

Heres the link below:
https://github.com/atb007/MatildaPiano

I am currently creating another VST taking inspiration from a VCV module and extrapolate its features to a VST format(under Matilda universe). As this is a more ambitious project would love to collaborate or hear any tips on creating a more complex project. Heres a snippet below on design i am creating. Can anybody guess the module?

My scope in UI is try to have animation and its different state logics like hair waving, the avatar breathing slowly(idle state), laser-like streaks that trail blaze over her hair when the vst is active and fog/mist and aurora procedurally generated. And of course the meat of the vst is the functionality itself. Would love to hear your thoughts on this, especially any tips on animation.
