Patek 6119R vs VC 82172

Patek 6119R vs VC 82172

Hi everyone,

I used to focus on Rolex, but now I’m looking to step up into the horology world with Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, focusing on dressy pieces since I already have some Rolex sport models in my collection.
I’ve been considering pre-owned Patek 6119R and Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle 82172, and here are a few points I’m weighing:

  1. The price of the 82172 is roughly half or even a third of the 6119R (around USD 12k–15k vs. USD 30k), depending on the year. Is it worth paying the premium? I understand watches aren’t really appreciating investments, but from a market perspective, the 6119R seems to have better liquidity and is easier to trade if I decide to upgrade later.

  2. The 6119R is larger than the 82172, and my wrist measures 7 inches. For a dress watch, I tend to prefer a smaller size. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the fit and feel.

Thanks everyone!

Wearing this Daytona for the first time completely changed my perspective

I never had the chance to try it on at the AD before. My first impression is that it’s surprisingly light, with nicely curved lugs that make it very comfortable to wear. The white dial is striking, especially in sunlight. After wearing it, I now understand all the hype surrounding this watch.
