Euphorbia brevirama in a pot from a plant lifestyle store in Tokyo.

This brevirama’s arms were pressing into the side of the plastic pot it came in, so I got something with a bit more room from “Garage”, a plant lifestyle store in Shibuya, Tokyo.

ID help, not the plant I’d expected

So I was germinating some chili de arbol from my previous year’s crop along with chancing some seeds from dried chili pods I’d purchased for cooking. I thought these were from my arbol group. But could these perhaps be pasilla/chilaca? I’ve included the fruit, flower and my guaranteed arbol that I overwintered.

  1. Mystery fruit

  2. White to light green filament

  3. Chile de arbol fruit from overwintered plant.

  4. Arbol flower with purple filament

ID help on these lophophora in Japan.

Bought these three at a local show a while back in the “discount” area of a seller. I’ve tried following the “guides” for ID’ing lophophora, but I figured getting more seasoned opinions would be helpful.

Pickups and spring growth!

Went to the Tokyo Big Bazaar this past weekend and n picked up some euphorbia along with these two cacti.

First is a Puna bonnieae, a geophytic cactus from Argentina. Looks a bit like a tephrocactus, but apparently is not related.

Second is a lovely Coryphantha elephantidens cv. Inermis. First time seeing them in person and reasonably priced. About 7 cm across.

Then really excited to see my Copiapoa hypogaea blooming again. Previously it put out 2 flowers, but about a month later I now count 20 buds forming.

Last are a few of my first astrophytum seeds from last year that have been putting on some size. Really excited to see how the last one with the double ribs looks when it gets more mature.

E. graniticola with 3 cotyledons

Good success rate with my E. graniticola seeds, but was surprised to come home from work and find one is developing 3 cotyledons.

I read that it’s considered a form of “whorled phyllotaxy”, but does anything with experience think this will turn out much different from a normal caudex forming E. graniticola?
