Red fox on the Florida Georgia line

Waiting out the morning on a dock overhanging the Florida side of an abnormally dry St. Marys River, I hoped to spot an otter. But instead, I was surprised by a red fox on the Georgia bank.

Reddish egret looking radical in a strong sea breeze

This was pretty funny because I was trying to photograph an egret about 50ft away when my wife slapped my sunburnt shoulder and said “omg babe!” I took my eye off the viewfinder and here another one had landed just a few feet away on the railing.

Atlantic Ghost crabs mating in the moonlight

One of our favorite beach activities is looking for crabs at night. I thought we'd found a molting crab until we realized there were two! Photo taken with the remarkable Olympus TG-5.

Adorable spotted squirrel eating a morning glory flower on the beach

South Padre Island is all about birds in the spring, and I got a lot of great shots, but seeing this ground squirrel got me the most excited. I'd been looking for one in the wildlife areas but never had any luck. Then on our beach day, when it was the last thing on my mind, this little thing emerged from the dunes right behind our chairs. I couldn't believe it!
