Red fox on the Florida Georgia line
Waiting out the morning on a dock overhanging the Florida side of an abnormally dry St. Marys River, I hoped to spot an otter. But instead, I was surprised by a red fox on the Georgia bank.

One of our favorite beach activities is looking for crabs at night. I thought we'd found a molting crab until we realized there were two! Photo taken with the remarkable Olympus TG-5.
South Padre Island is all about birds in the spring, and I got a lot of great shots, but seeing this ground squirrel got me the most excited. I'd been looking for one in the wildlife areas but never had any luck. Then on our beach day, when it was the last thing on my mind, this little thing emerged from the dunes right behind our chairs. I couldn't believe it!
