The case for row covers

I had two broccoli plants that I couldn’t fit under the row covers, but it made an interesting experiment to see what happened to those two plants versus the ones under the row covers. Needless to say, row covers of the way to go.

Cheap set but any good?

It’s powder coated steel. Heavy. Seats are comfy. I would normally wait and get aluminum but this seems like a good deal. It will be in the open on a patio.

Let me try again

Yesterday I requested some recommendations for our upcoming trip but mentioned the wrong island. Let me try again and appreciate any help.

We’re 5 adults (one is my 76 year old mother in law) flying into Athens on July 17, for 17 days. I always have rented a car in the past because we typically drive to the West Coast and stay in the Peloponnese to visit my wife’s family in the small towns, just south of Patra. Then we would do shorter trips to Zakinthos or Kefalonia for three or four days, maintaining a homebase in her small village.

This year, we are not planning on visiting her village more than a day or two so our first stop will be to Glyfada for 2 nights. While there, we are planning a day trip to Egenia. Then when we leave Glyfada, we go back to Athens (Piraeus port) and go to Paros for 4 days.

After that isn’t planned. If we assume that I will have the car, then I was going to drive to the port outside of Corfu (Igoumenitsa). And then we would spend eight or nine days there. And then we would drive from the port after leaving Corfu either down to Patra to drop off my mother-in-law (she is staying on for another month traveling down to her village) and we would still have I guess four days but I don’t wanna spend four days in Athens per se. We’ve been there a bunch of times.

The other place that I would like to go instead of Corfu would be near Kalamata or Pelos on the southern tip of the Peloponnese. It seems like some really nice spots there and it would be less of a headache than driving the 5 1/2 hours to the port outside of Corfu.

So two main questions if anyone can help. Is it worth getting a car for the whole entire trip or just renting a car stay in Corfu? Because the flight is only an hour from Athens there if we do the flight though, is it a problem to have all those bags that we would have on a small plane Leslie, are there any recommendations for the south of the Peleponnese near the areas I mentioned that are really nice and worth visiting for eight or nine days?

The thing with the car is I just like having access to transportation when I want it and not wait for Ubers or buses and things like that. I get that inside Athens we can take the metro, but I have to consider my mother-in-law as well. That’s the other issue.

She came out aight

My son cut the video short so he don’t get the quintessential juicy shot but she came out good. I had to hold it for 16 hours so I made it on Saturday all day and then held it overnight into Sunday around 3 o’clock. I found out my Samsung oven has a feature where I can set the max temperature down to 150 so I worked that great.

Did I trim too much fat?

This started as a 20 pound brisket looks like I took about 4 pounds of fat if not more off the thing there was one huge chunk of fat on the left side of the photo by the point kept hacking out I’m not sure if I should’ve done that or left it alone. We still have a shit ton of tallow.

Can I make this?

I have a bunch of large rounds in my yard. They’re all silver maple. I’m wondering if I can cut a slice like this and make it into a cutting board? Does anyone know what would be required to do something like that and would that be a good wood to do it with?

Dodged a bullet

I had to take down this beautiful Silver maple yesterday. Kind of upset that I had to, but I had a Tree Guy come about eight years ago and cut the limb way too close to the trunk and then disease/rot set in. There was literally like an inch to 2 inches of solid wood on the outer rim there it was just a horrible accident waiting to happen. It was about 10 feet from my house.

This deck is about 15 years old and no real issues. I just noticed that these two support beams are tilted. They’ve probably been like that for a while, but I’m not sure if I bother should I put in hurricane straps on the other side of the beam.
