Zaire Saint sat at the table with his hands locked together, trying not to let the cameras see the storm building behind his eyes.

KJ kept talking, filling the silence with jokes that nobody was really listening to. Tanaka stayed close, watching him the way only someone who knew every version of him could. Jules checked his phone, calm on the surface, even as the uncertainty tightened around the table.

Zaire heard every pick and with each one, the questions grew louder. Was the Final Four run enough? Did scouts see the player—or only the reckless shots? Had he done enough to make his grandmother proud? Then Jules’ phone lit up. His expression changed.

“The Knicks traded up.”

For one second, the entire room stopped breathing, then Adam Silver stepped to the podium.

“With the twelfth pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select… Zaire Saint, guard, Tulane University.”

Now he had to prove he belonged.
New Orleans raised him.
Tulane revealed him.
New York chose him.
With the twelfth pick, a new storm entered the Garden.
