Still Austin DRS #21 First Impressions

I visited Austin this weekend to pick up my DRS #21, they had pours available at the bar so I figured why not:

Nose: sweet on the nose; of toasted sugar, candied nuts, Maple and a soft baking spice.

Palate: Pancakes soaked in maple syrup, maraschino cherries, biscoff cookies. The finish is long; notes of maple, soft oak, cinnamon bark.

I've been fortunate enough to have a lot of Stull Austin product over the last few years, and this definitely ranks among their best that I've tried. Brilliant work...

Mail Call: Happy Father's Day

Kooper's Family Father's Office Cigar Blend: 8 year old MGP Bourbon (6 of those years aged in Central Texas) with a finish of Amburana and Mizanura Oak staves. I'm always a fan of unique experiments and this will be no exception. I'll be cracking this one open with my Dad tonight and I'm looking forward to it!

I've gotten into Kooper's Family over the last year or so and they're quickly becoming one of my favorite NDPs in the market today (it also never hurts to support local businesses too!)

Jimmy Red Peach Brandy Finished: When in South Carolina, you buy Jimmy Red. As you can see, this bottle has been opened and I took it over to the family's house for dinner. It's a big hit...

Jimmy Red Double Oaked: This bottle is great, the second barrel compliments the palate and doesn't overwhelm it. Anyone who's on the fence with Jimmy Red really needs to give it a shot, they're one of the better craft whiskey brands out there...

This Week's Pick Ups: It's Been A Good Week (A Really Good Week...)

Belle Meade Reserve Cask Strength Bourbon: I haven't seen these in forever and for $56, it's the easiest yes that I've made for a bottle in a very long time. I'm so pumped to break this open...

Still Austin Rare Stock #7 (Double Oaked Malted Blue Corn Bourbon): This takes the cake for the most unique bourbon on my shelf. I'm planning on cracking this open on my birthday when my brother visits, it has the makings of an all-time great...

Weller Full Proof: When you get a chance to buy one at $66, you buy one at $66. I haven't had one on the shelf in a while, so it's nice to see it again...

Old Charter Oak "Finest Oak": A low proof, NAS release from Buffalo Trace featuring the famous Mash Bill #1 barreled with a different cooperage. The goal of this bottle is to see how different tweaks to the barreling process can impact the base spirit (Spoiler Alert: I've already had a few pours and it's definitely noticeable, will have a review on r/bourbon soon hopefully...)

New Southern Revival Straight Bourbon Whiskey (High Wire Distilling Co, 100% Jimmy Red Corn): I was really excited to find this bottle, hopefully this scratches the craft itch for me...

Old Forester 1924 (2026 Release): I passed this once at MSRP and told myself I wouldn't do it again if I saw it. It showed up at my local store for $110 plus tax, so I felt that was a no brainer...
