Planning Ahead Topics

Does anyone else plan ahead and find pictures and research topics ahead of putting them in their book? Or does this defeat the purpose of a Commonplace book?

I am going into hospital soon for surgery and will be stuck in there for about a week. I wont have access to a printer but will have internet access so was thinking about some future topics I'd like to research and perhaps pictures to go along with them, that I can print at home and bring to hospital. I know I won't feel like doing anything the day of and day after surgery but I need something to occupy myself while stuck in bed.

While looking for images to go with a topic about Lizzie Borden it has taken me down a rabbit hole that has bought me to Victorian Mourning Dress lol Just thought I'd add this little bit because I'm sure everyone can relate to falling down the rabbit hole that is the internet.

First Page Down

Originally I was going to make my first page about the surgery I'm going to be having soon, but that will most likely take up more than one page. So i thought, what else can I make my first page be about?

Then it hit me, I write about my favourite dog breed, and the breed I just happen to own, Great Danes. It seemed fitting given this is the handmade journal that has a Great Dane on the cover!

Sharing my Handmade Commonplace Journal

I have been really struggling to find a notebook/journal that fits all of my ADHD brain's criteria, which is:

* Hardcover

* A5

* Light Gridlines

* Paper thick enough that fountain pen ink won't bleed, but not too thick

* Paper smooth enough for said fountain pen to glide over nicely

So I decided to make my own. I have an abundance of "Little Golden Books" that I recycle into notebooks and journals, so I found one that I like (I love Great Danes and Own one), so this book about dogs was perfect. I evenly placed the original storybook pages throughout the journal, and made my own gridlines, and pages to fill out the rest to write on.

To keep the "Little Golden Book" aesthetic, I used Gold binding wires, and painted the edges of the covers gold also. I have a title page with start and completion dates to write in, 2x pages for my Topic Key, a page with basic Commonplace Journal Information, blank grid pages with a spot at the bottom for my page numbering system, and 5x double sided pages at the end of the book for my Index.

Now that its finished, I am researching the topic for my first page. I am waiting to have some major surgery to remove my extremely enlarged thyroid and a tumor/mass (not cancer), which will be done through sternotomy (through the sternum, instead of the neck). So my first page will be a basic rundown of the surgery procedure, recovery and possible complications.

I feel, by using / recycling an old book and keeping the original pages it will help with "First Page Fear"

What does everyone think?

Income Apportionment Resolution Scheme

Back in February I applied for a payment under the Income Apportionment Resolution Scheme, it was acknowledged and the letter said that people would receive offers from July 2026. Has anyone actually received an offer of compensation under this scheme? I am still yet to hear anything. Also is this separate from the latest Robodebt Class Action settlement?

Page Numbering

I didn't invent this page numbering style I discovered it during my ADHD Bullet Journaling phase.

Basically it works like this:

* the number in the box is the current page.

* the left number is the last page with a related topic

* the right number is the next page with a related topic

If there are no related topics before the current page, you leave it blank. The place after the current page would be also left blank until you create another page with a related topic, then it would get filled in. Hopefully this makes sense.

I thought this might be a useful "at a glance" idea to use in my commonplace book, without having to go back to the key or index to find topics.

Car not getting power, but battery indicator shows battery is fine

I have a 2017 Holden Captiva, and before anyone says anything I've never had an issue with it until yesterday. In the morning everything was fine the car was running fine I had been out and about all morning.

At 4pm I went to go out but my Keyfob wouldn't unlock my car. The keyfob had been playing up recently indicating that the battery was going flat so I changed the battery and still no luck. I tried my spare fob and that wouldn't unlock the car either.

I manually unlocked the car with the key and tried putting the keyfob in the little notch in the centre console, and still the car wouldn't start. No lights or anything was working, so I thought maybe my battery was flat. The indicator thing on the battery is showing green meaning the battery is ok, but my neighbour who knows cars said we will pop the battery on charge overnight just in case.

Came out to my car this morning and its still not getting power, and the battery charger was showing a fault light, the indicator on the battery is still green.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? We checked the fuses and they are all fine.

Inheritance

I am soon (within the next 30 days) to recieve money from my father's estate. It will be between $1000 and $1500, but due to the strained relationship between my father and myself I dont want it. Instead I'm giving it to my teenage children (putting it straight into their bank accounts) What do I tell centrelink?
