NYLT advice

Hi, basically the title. I'm going to NYLT tomorrow and not gonna lie, I'm not that excited.

Pretty much everyone in my troop who's went said that it was a great experience, but I can't help but feel a little bit of dread.

First off, I don't really like the camp I'm going to. I was there for my Ordeal a few months ago and the whole camp is filled with ticks and other critters along with the campsites and pathways barely being defined. No gravel paths or even well worn dirt ground. During my Ordeal, I almost got lost trying to find the bathrooms at 4AM. Speaking of, they're pretty much all latrines. I get that latrines are pretty much part of the camp life, but they really suck, especially since my period has been late and I'm expecting it pretty much any day now.

Also, I'm already really burnt out from other trips and travel. I've already gone to my troops normal summer camp, Jambo, and a family vacation, all of which were literally back-to-back. This week is the only full week I've been home in a whole month. The homesickness hit me like a truck at Jambo and I'm scared for how its gonna feel at NYLT. I think that's the main part of it. I'm just really, really tired and I want to stay home a little longer. I've started to see NYLT not as something exciting or even scary, just another thing to get through.

On the bright side, a lot of girls from my troop are going, not just as participants, but as staff, too. I'm also excited to grow as a leader and become more capable of higher positions in my troop.

Any advice is really appreciated!

Scared about my Ordeal, need advice

Hi, Reddit removed my post before, so let me know if I'm violating any rules and how to fix it.

Hi everyone, I'm a Star scout who's been in my troop for a little over three years. I'm well acquainted with scouts and my troop, and a little bit of OA. I got elected about a month ago, and my Ordeal is next weekend (29th-31st) and safe to say, I'm absolutely terrified!

I know most of it is supposed to be secret. All I know is that there's some sort of silence involved for a day (Saturday?), service, minimal meals, and the dreaded night outside.

I'm really, really scared for the night outside, I've never done anything like it before and I have no idea what to expect. I have an 8×10 tarp and those giant sleeve things you can put your sleeping bag in, but I don't know if I need more? less? And I know this is a really really stupid question, but are the bugs bad? How do I prevent ticks while sleeping? Is the night outside in an established campsite, or out in the open? Are we building shelters?

Also, for tent borrowing purposes, are we allowed to share tents the first night?

(Also, I'm a female scout. What do I do if I get my period and need to excuse myself, get supplies, etc?)

Any help, advice, etc within the bounds of what you can disclose would be amazing

EDIT: Thank you all for the advice!! It's genuinely been really helpful, and I feel a lot calmer and more prepared now.

Sleeping outside with bug contamination fear

The title, basically. Next week I am going on a camping trip where I will have to sleep outside, likely only with a tarp and sleeping bag, for what I think (and hope) is one night. I have a lot of obsessions around bugs, especially spiders, and I'm deathly scared of them crawling on me or in my sleeping bag while I sleep. When I first learned that we had to do this, it sent me into an anxiety attack I was so scared. Any advice is really, really appreciated.

(Also—please no comments like "youre in the bugs' home" or anything like that. I love and appreciate insects and arachnids and what they do for the environment, I just cant bear them in my sleeping bag or on me.)

My first Night Heron 😭🫶

I took these pics at Sandy Hook, NJ. I originally couldn't ID it and figured it was just another heron or egret, but when I got home, I reviewed all of my pics and when I zoomed in on this guy, BAM BCNH, zooping as well!!! I was so excited I immediately ran to add it to my checklist and I still kinda can't believe it. Super cool.

Hey yall, pretty much what the title says. I'm about 10x more irritable than usual (which is crazy coming from me) and my breasts hurt like crazyyy. I've had cramps that remind me of cramps that I get during my actual period (which are not too bad, but still surprising), along with headaches. I pretty much never get PMS this bad, usually a little irritable but never anything this noticable. My tracker app says 4 days to my period, but I usually only get symptoms this bad 1-2 days before my period.

I'm regularly irregular. I get my period every ~3 weeks, and this has been consistent pretty much since I've started. I got my hormones tested a while ago and they were fine.

I'm still a teenager, so I'm wondering if this could just be related to puberty hormones or whatnot.

Could this be a sign that my period is going to be worse/heavier this month?

I found it a few years ago, just sitting in the middle of a gravel trail. I don't know much about fossil IDs. Let me know if i should provide any more info.

Additionally: I got it wet, and it stunk strongly of something like a very sweet cleaning product. I dont know what it is or if it means anything.
