I took the Frigate Fortuna, and modified her into the HMS Fortuna, a prize of Jack Aubrey.

As soon as I saw the Bricklink Series Frigate Fortuna, I knew that I had to have her, and I knew that I could not rest until I had made her as close to the HMS Surprise as I could. {un}Fortunately I broke my ankle at the beginning of the summer, and required surgery to be put back together, so when this showed up in the mail, I was able to take time and work on it one bag at a time, at a pace that really allowed me to enjoy all the intricacies of this build, it was so fun to do, and it gave me a lot of time to think about the changes I would make once completed. In the end, I made quite a few:

* Added main topsails to all three masts

* Added fore and main topgallants

* Added the Jib

* Converted the "spanker" to Main Staysail (triangular sail in the middle)

* Due to the inclusion of both paper and Lego sails, I had to get creative on how to attach both to the Yards, but we got there in the end

* Repurposed a printed endurance sail as a Fore topgallant Staysail (the lower triangle on the front)

* Added the Blue Ensign to the main mast (which is why I had the spare endurance sail)

* I converted the furled Foresail, Mainsail, Spritsail and spanker to "tan" instead of white, to match the canvas sails.

* The regular Marines all lost their epaulettes white coats and tricorne hats and were replaced with redcoats and more accurate hats.

* The Marine officer gained gold epaulettes and fancier hat.

* Added 4 additional Marines to the crew compliment

* The Naval officers all lost their epaulettes, except the new captain. (A custom Jack Aubrey figure)

* All minifigures have been force transitioned to masculine-presenting.

* Naval Officers and midshipmen have been given blue coats.

* Stern chasers have been converted to "brass" to match Jack Aubreys personal stern chasers in the Master and Commander series novels

* Gunports changed from Red to Black

* 5 additional sailors, including a master gunner, who has manned one of the Brass stern chasers

* Ships Doctor added to the Crew Compliment, a custom Stephen Maturin from the Master and Commander series

The biggest changes, I think, were the Sails, and the gunports I would say. the gunports were one of the last pieces to change, and it really did shift the whole feel of the ship.

I could not tell you how many hours I spent on this, and I simply won't say how much it cost, because I don't want to add up all the different bricklink orders I've done over the last 2 months and know myself.

Huge shoutout to /u/-mkit3- for designing the set and providing the sails and to u/HaroldTheScarecrow and u/Alarmed-Occasion-679 for helping me build Aubrey and Maturin!

Troubleshooting support - Audio

Just got home with a Q77K from Costco to replace a 10+yr old Vizio.

My general setup at home is a Fire stick into an old Denon AVR, which outputs audio to my speakers, and video to my TV.

As soon as I plugged the HDMI into the TV, the audio cut out to the speakers.

I figured this might have something to do with the CEC settings, so I went into the menus on the TV and turned off CEC. I then pulled the power in the receiver, and turned off the TV, I plugged the receiver back in, and we got the fire stick startup sounds through the speakers, but as soon as we turned on the TV, the sound ceased.

I've double checked all my settings on the AVR, like I said it's pretty old at this point, so there's not a lot of settings to actually play with, and it looks good.

For now I've plugged the fire stick directly into the TV and am watching the world cup on the built in speakers, but I'd much rather use my externals. I can get an optical cable if I need to, but I'd much prefer the AVR be the control hub, not the TV, for my input devices.

Thoughts?

This might seem odd, but here we go.

Got a text from Scissors and Scotch a couple days ago that my appointment would need to be rescheduled, because my hair stylists last day was in April. After some inquiring conversation from my end, it looks like they have no availability, but they will be hiring 5 more stylists in the next week or two.

That being said, I still need to get my hair cut, and after decades of disappointment, I finally found Amber at S&S, and I've been going to her for a year now and have been happy every single time.

I've tried poking about on the socials to see if I can find her, to see if she's landed elsewhere, or is going to be offering services from home, but unfortunately I don't have her last name, so the going is slow. I figured I'd reach out here too, to see if anyone had the tea on S&S, and if anyone had a lead on Amber!

I've had a long, complicated, uncomfortable history with shoes. But last year I finally found the perfect pair. The New Balance 877, in 13EE.

I'm fairly certain these ran pretty wide, because many other New Balance shows that I've tried in EE have still been pretty tight.

Well, I've had these for 16 months or so, and my 7 miles/day average that I put on them have worn through both souls, and started a major crack in the bottom of my right shoe.

It looks like the 877 is discontinued, so I can't just buy another pair.

I popped into my local factory store, it had none that were labelled as "walking shoes" but I tried on the few that were available in 13EE. The 608s were nice enough, but I didn't *love* them. I also tried a hiker and a runner, but don't recall their numbers/names. Both were too narrow at 2E, and neither had a 4E offering.

I'm pretty dead set on finding another pair of New Balance. The only other shoes I have that fit as comfortably are Clarks 47 wide, for my dress shoes, Ariat 13W for work boots, and Keen 13W for hiking boots.

TL;DR: I'm looking for some casual walking NBs that are as close to the 877 in 13EE as I can.
