[ON] Confused on if to use a midwife or look for a family doctor

Hi everyone! I’m a first-time mom and also very new to Ontario/Toronto, so I’m still trying to understand how pregnancy care works here.

I recently found out I’m pregnant (I’m about 8 weeks now), and I’ve already been accepted by a midwife clinic — Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives — with my first appointment scheduled for June. I’m also planning to deliver at Centenary Hospital.

However, my mother-in-law is strongly encouraging me to find a family doctor because she believes it’s important to have one throughout pregnancy.

I’m a little confused because online and on Reddit, I see so many people recommending midwives instead, especially for low-risk pregnancies.

For those who’ve experienced pregnancy care in Ontario:

- Did you go with a family doctor, midwife, or OB?
- Why did you choose that option?
- As a first-time mom with basically no support system in the province yet (aside from my MIL and an aunt), would a midwife be enough on its own?
- Has anyone here used Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives? Am I in good hands?

I’d really appreciate hearing people’s experiences and advice 😊

Family doctor or Midwife?

Hi everyone! I’m a first-time mom and also very new to Ontario/Toronto, so I’m still trying to understand how pregnancy care works here.

I recently found out I’m pregnant (I’m about 8 weeks now), and I’ve already been accepted by a midwife clinic (Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives) starting later in my pregnancy with my first appointment with a midwife there in June. I also plan to birth my baby in Centenary hospital.

However, my mother-in-law is strongly encouraging me to find a family doctor because she thinks it’s important to have one throughout the pregnancy.

I’m a little confused because online and on Reddit, I see so many people recommending midwives instead, especially for low-risk pregnancies.
