Is anyone traveling from Canada to Cancún today or tomorrow? need medication for my baby [on]

Hi everyone,
Is anyone traveling from Canada to Cancún today or tomorrow?
Our baby is under 1 year old and has a bad cold. Unfortunately, during airport security we lost the pouch that had all of his nasal care supplies, including HydraSense saline drops/spray and our nasal aspirator (suction).
If anyone is coming from Canada and would be willing to bring these items, we would be incredibly grateful. We are staying at Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún and can meet you at the hotel or another convenient location. Of course, I’ll reimburse the cost of the items.
Please send me a DM if you can help. Thank you so much!

Help with bottles on the go. [AB]

FTM. My NICU baby is coming home soon and will need to take fortified bottles on top of breastfeeding. I’m looking for any tips or advice on taking bottles on the go so we feel confident leaving the house.

I don’t want to be oversold on all the baby items out there - we all know there’s a ton of items on the market.

A few suggestions I received already:

- asking for hot water at a restaurant to heat bottles.

- purchasing a portable bottle warmer, not sure which brands are any good.

How do you travel with your milk? Bring coolers everywhere you go? Fortified bottles, do you mix at home or mix on the go?

TIA!!

Baby is almost 5 months old and I’m still anxious about leaving the house with him [CA]

FTM to a 4 month old and I still have a lot of anxiety about going out. Whenever we do leave the house (always with my partner), it’s only for about an hour or two at a time to grab groceries or to go to an appointment. Most days, we stay inside. I’ve also been declining invitations to go to dinner or to visit family as I still feel it is too overwhelming.

Is there something wrong with me? Is this harmful for my baby? I was already a huge homebody prior to having a baby, but having him seems to have exacerbated it. At this point, I’m afraid I’ll never feel confident enough to take him out as always be worried about his feeding and sleep schedule as he has been sleeping terribly since he was about 2 months old.

Stroller suggestions needed [on]

Hey everyone, we are FTPs. We have bought a Graco Modes Pramette Travel System, 3-in-1 Baby Stroller and Car Seat Combo mainly because it has an infant pramette. Although the car seat is pretty great, the stroller is a bit flimsy. It shakes a lot on uneven pavement and grassy areas.

Can anyone recommend a good stroller and car seat system with a sturdy stroller? It would be nice to have a bassinet-like attachment for the baby to lie down on.

Edit to add, our budget is not really high. Looking for something under 800$.

Confused between UB Cruz V3 and Vista V3 [ca]

Currently 35w pregnant. I already have UB aria carseat. I am debating between cruz v3 vs vista v3. Our plan is to have another baby (or start trying) when our baby is 2.5 or 3! So wouldn’t need a double stroller. We live in Winnipeg so snow is pretty bad here.. I am small petite person (5.3”) - we do own SUV so trunk space isn’t an issue but I don’t know if lifting it again and again would be easy with vista v3? The price difference isn’t much so Idk!

Any suggestions?

Baby Shower Games/Activities [ab]

Hello 😄 Sorry if this isn't the correct sub for this - I'm having my baby shower in 2 weeks and I have a few "activities/interactive things" that aren't necessarily games. The two games I'm having aren't also very interactive so I'm wondering if that's okay?

The games will be:

  • Guess how many candies in the jar
  • Guess how big mom's belly is (use a string to guess)

The "activities" will be:

  • Perfume station (guests select from one of two scents and fill their own bottles)
  • Coffee cart bar
  • DIY bouquet station

I'm debating adding another more "interactive" game like a baby changing race or something but I also feel like there will be a lot going on? I (unwillingly, in laws :') ) am having about 35 people when I originally wanted under 20 so I was hoping it'd be over by 6pm - it starts at 1. I'm also having live music come while I cut the cake at 5 pm (hubby will be joining in for this - all female shower otherwise)

ALSO - what should the prizes of the games be? I'd like to keep them around or under $100

Thank you so much for any advice!!

EDIT: I will NOT be opening gifts I find that very tacky! Because of our cultural background unfortunately its going to a be a bit of a longer shower I am hoping after the cake cutting everything will go home and also banking on a lot of guests showing up at 130-145. Believe me I am not trying to keep everyone hostage all day - i am tiiiirreeedddd.

Baby Carrier Advice [ON]

I have an incredibly difficult newborn, currently 7 weeks old and close to 11 lbs, who had just started rejecting the bassinet for naps. I basically have to contact nap or carry him all day and with another toddler at home, this is really taking a toll on me mentally and physically. I’m hoping to find a carrier that will allow me to stay comfortable and carry him all day while I cook, clean, and hang with my toddler. Does such a carrier exist? I’m 5’6” and have a petite frame (especially upper body). Here are the main carriers that I’ve already tried:

Ergobaby Embrace - worked ok in the very early newborn days but I find it very uncomfy especially now that baby is over 10 lbs. baby feels very squished against me and the waistband either falls and puts a lot of pressure on my abs or I have to make it so tight that I can barely breathe. Also hurts my back.

Solly wrap - can be comfy for a while but I find it way too annoying to put on and off, get baby in and out, and adjust

Mabe - I loved this carrier with my first baby but we only started using it at 5 months. It feels a bit too big for a newborn. I also foolishly bought the demim one which is not comfy at all. This one is the most comfortable for my back though.

Ergobaby omni 360 - too structured and fits way too big on my shoulders

Baby Bjorn Mini - baby seems to hate it and hurts my back.

[on] Show me your *quietest* click baby gate for the top of stairs, please!

My kids are light sleepers! I need a gate for the top of our stairs that doesn’t send a loud noise throughout the house. So, it needs to mount to the wall…. Any recommendations?

Return to work transition after mat leave *[on]*

Hi everyone

Im finishing up my mat leave soon and was wondering if anyone has any tips and advice regarding the return to work transition. Im not talking abt daycare but just like yhe regular work life routine. Example.aftering being off a year i feel like there'd alot of cha nges in the company and was wondering how long dod it take for most ppl to feel like they fully adjusted to the regular work routine including getting up to speed with cha ges and system

Also did anyone struggle wirh getting up to speed on things and on-boarding etc and do you find its easier to stsrt ur work day esrly and end earlier

The two things im nervous abt is the fact that although my child is fully adjusted to daycare she is still adjusting to daycare nap schedule which means she still needs 2 naps and often times I've had to pick her up early for her second nap . Im thinking of just starting my work day early as mt husband can do drop.pff and I do pickup bit just end work a bit early . However im open to suggestions as well as mt daughter is not yet ready for 1 nap. What time dl most ppl pick.up their kofs from daycare

The second thing is dinner. Wondering what are the easiest go to week night dinner recipes and do most ppl.meal.prep in advance?

Last Name Question [on]

My husband has a long, two-part last name, let’s say X Y but with 15 letters, and not hyphenated. The second part of his last name is very easy to pronounce and use here as it’s a common wine/region and I don’t think we’d ever have to spell it out. lol

My last name is much shorter and easier to pronounce than X Y, but I always have to spell it out here because of the letters “b” and “v” in it. I always had to spell it out back home too and they’d still get it wrong (because it’s easily mistaken for other, more common surnames) so I had to always double check documents. I actually haven’t run into that problem in Canada as much. Lol

I was thinking of just using Y as the baby’s last name, but I’m not sure if that’s doable if we’re both birth parents. I also don’t know if we’ll run into any problems if none of us have the same exact last name as the baby.

I suppose another option would be to give the baby my last name. My husband even wanted to take my last name when we first started talking about marriage because he was so tired of his long and inconvenient last name. lol

I always imagined just using Y because it’s easy and convenient and impossible to get wrong, but now I’m faced with this dilemma. We would never give the baby his full surname because that’s just cruel.

I’m curious if anyone has done something like that, especially if you have dual citizenship. Just want to know what’s possible over here and how inconvenient things might be if travelling internationally.

PS I suppose the baby sharing my last name might help for when travelling without my husband to see family.

I am going back to work after 11 months mat leave. Am I anormal? [ON]

This may sound stupid. But I am feeling super guilty about going back to work at 11 months (my baby is a preemie so he actually started daycare at 8 months actual age). We wanted to buy a home, so I had to go back to be able sustain our finances. But now I am feeling guilty, feeling that maybe I could have postponed the home purchase plan. Any other Mom here who resumed work early?

Ps: My baby loves daycare. It's just me feeling odd, like I've failed him.

How long did you use the infant car seat? [on]

My son just turned one two weeks ago, and he’s a little guy. He’s nowhere near hitting any of the limits for his infant car seat (18.8 lbs, 71 cm). If you had a small baby, how long did you keep the infant car seat for? I’m wondering if I should be thinking about making the switch or if I can leave it for a little longer. Thanks!

Clek Liing Carseat Sale [CA]

hello babybumps fam! wanted to let y'all know that the clek liing is currently on sale on their main website / snugglebugz. Price dropped from $649.99 to $519.99.

I had it on my amazon baby registry and it was eligible for the completion discount, but when I checked today it was showing full price and no completion discount so just bought it off the official website.

another comment on this thread a few weeks ago allowed me to snag the uppababy stroller I wanted on sale (for which I was super grateful!), so sharing this in case any one was looking to buy one.

Iron for Preemies [BC]

I have 4-month old twins who were born at 31 weeks. They have been on an iron supplement since birth. We missed their supplement 2 days in a row and they were so much happier: not as gassy or straining and popping once a day.

I called to ask their Pediatrician if we could forego the supplement since they’re on 100% formula which is iron fortified. She said they have to take the supplement even with the formula.

As soon as they went back on, the crying and straining began. I just feel so bad for them. Is it worth it? Is the Pediatrician being extra careful or is she right?

Anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions to ease the pain. We do massages and bicycles. She already suggested we split the dose. I don’t know how to proceed

16 weeks pregnant. Breathlessness. Is it normal?? [ab]

Hi everyone. I’m just shy of 17 weeks. I’ve been having a lot of exhaustion as of late. Even while doing simple tasks like laundry or walking up the stairs. I feel so out of breath. I’m 5’6, 170 pounds in fairly decent shape. I feel so uncomfortable majority of the time in the sense that I feel out of breath by doing simple things. It’s making me a little paranoid as I do suffer from health anxiety and tend to fixate on physical sensations, especially when it has to do with my heart. My blood pressure is normal, it’s actually within range and often comes out as optimal. I know I have low iron and am on supplements and have been for awhile but they don’t seem to be working.

Is this feeling of being so out of breath normal? Does it get worse? I feel so defeated :( it takes away from all of the joy and excitement I want to feel in this pregnancy. I feel paranoid that my heart will just stop on me one way. I recently had tests for PVCs and they noted that I do have PVCs although nothing concerning and a very small percentage of the time.

I know I’m not alone and read on Reddit that a lot of women feel the same way during pregnancy however I’m hoping for some words of reassurance. I hate feeling concerned and hate feeling like I have no control over these sensation/feelings of physical discomfort. Even while laying down on my right side, I feel a little discomfort and have to immediately turn to my left. But then my hips start to hurt after laying on one side for too long.

This is my first pregnancy.

[on] daycare transition to no naps

How does everyone’s daycares handle it when your kid doesn’t need to nap anymore.

Our 2.5yo goes to sleep easily at 7 with no nap, is a nightmare to put down and won’t sleep until 9 sometimes later if she naps. Tried shifting bedtime later and it doesn’t help those days.

We talked to the daycare workers who said they all get the opportunity to nap, which she is currently
taking but not napping doesn’t impact her mood or behaviour negatively. Wondering if anyone’s pushed back on this (this is a city run daycare)

FTM - Stroller Recommendations [on]

Hi!

I am a FTM, living in the GTA looking for our first stroller, baby due in Oct! Here are some considerations.

- not super fussed about a convertible stroller or a travel system as we will be purchasing an infant car seat separate (likely chicco or clik)
- open to buying bassinet (seat doesn’t need to be full recline)
- moderate amount of walking and we do have a cottage, so decent suspension
- no strict budget
- looking for longevity and quality
- have tried out a couple, Peg YPSI, bugaboo dragonfly and uppababy Cruz but interested in also hearing others recs (store attendants haven’t been super thrilled/impressed with Nuna (?))

[AB] Storkcraft Santa Monica or Dream on Me Berkley

We're looking to buy a motorized recliner/glider. Anyone have experience with either (or both) of these gliders?

The Storkcraft is double the price of the Berkley so I feel like it isn't worth it but its 6" wider. We were ideally looking for something more compact for our space but worried if its going to be too narrow once you're sitting in it with baby/toddler?

Thanks!
