Haven't done the site visits yet but I wanted to get a quote from all the places before checking them out to even know if they were within my budget. I expect the appearance, food quality, and amenities may vary greatly between these venue choices.

I hope this can be an excellent resource for anyone starting their search and wants to keep their wedding venue budget <$30K as I had to spend 5-8 hours googling, emailing quotes, then compiling into a table.

[ON] Funded IVF is only for embryo transfer, not for storing them, is that correct?

My understanding: Freezing to save for later isn't covered. If you're not ready for a baby now and want to freeze for the future, the answer is no. Preservation is only funded for medical reasons, their example is cancer treatment that puts you at risk of infertility.

In other words, the service is for people looking to actively conceive, not for those who want to save for the future.

Why are there so many banquet halls in Vaughan?

Like I've been looking for a banquet hall and realize there are 10+ in the same area. I am curious what is history of this is.

Woodbridge is 47% Italian Families so I'm guessing it just grew from having a big banquet culture, cheaper real estate and people kept opening up businesses with an industry cluster?

Palais Royale Quote for 150 People on Saturday Fall 2027

Saturday minimum F&B spend is $22K.

It is a very nice venue but I am thinking the
- $5500 venue rental fee
- $1500 AV Package
- $650 in order to display photos on project screens +
- $525 chair rentals for ceremony

are often included when booking a banquet hall so this is a bit nickel-and-dimey. But then again most banquet halls quote around $120/person for food and don't have outdoor ceremony areas or the prestige of only having one wedding at a time. I am thinking Palais has to charge more since they can only do one event per day... The listed food prices below seem very reasonable though.

The tent rental would be around $3000, as its split between three parties (if somebody books Friday and Sunday after you) so that the patio has sun coverage.

For Sundays there is no minimum spend just minimum 100 guests; but not sure if that will make this much cheaper since I have 150 guests. They might just remove the $8K minimum spend on the bar and let me do cash bar instead.

If I move forward with this will I be able to budget $60K for my entire wedding? Should I consider a different weekday or season if I want to book here?

Thoughts?

Venue recommendations for $60K budget for 150 people in Toronto / Nearby

I am looking to plan for Fall 2027 and talked to a couple of planners and collected a couple of quote packages from venues. I cannot compromise on the guest count as I have a large extended family and friends we want to invite so want to focus on affordable venues. Here is what I have come across

I have tried to gather as many quote packages as possible but its hard for me to roughly calculate what each will end up costing. I want to try and get the full venue/food/beverage around $30K and the remaining $30K towards vendors/photographer/DJ/clothing etc.

I hope to do ceremony nearby / on-site

Budget compromises

- I am ok with doing host bar / cash bar; family not big drinkers.

- I am ok doing a Sunday instead of a Saturday if needed

- I am OK with a banquet hall, hopefully still looks elevated and an outdoor area included for ceremony?

- I am also open to considering a restaurant wedding but I would want it to have a full dance floor and A/V for speeches if possible

Here's what I've shortlisted; any recommendations or real life quotes from the below?

- Casa Ricca Banquet Hall Wedding Package - seems to be like $90 / head, is it actually that cheap?
- WhiteShield https://www.whiteshieldbanquet.com/
- The Vue Clubhouse https://clubhouse.bypeterandpauls.com/pdf/2027-Wedding-Package.pdf - $110/person on a sunday?
- Eglinton Grand https://eglinton-grand-wedding-package.tiiny.site/?mode=suggestions - venue is kinda historic and chic and I heard from a planner food is good
- Guild Inn Estate https://guildinnestate.com/wp-content/uploads/wedding/guild-inn-wedding-packages.pdf
- Sunnybrook Estates https://www.oliverbonacini.com/weddings/ *fixed the URL
- Harding Waterfront https://www.hardingwaterfrontestate.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Harding_Waterfront_Estate-2026_Venue_Package-V1-011526.pdf

Any other venues I should consider, given my budget constraints?

Thanks all!

My girlfriend wants to play the game but she struggles with learning the rules and feels like its too intellectually challenging / difficult to learn.

We love and respect each other and so I made sure to she has a good first play experience with a positive group. She has played 2-3 games of Trouble Brewing she says its not fun since she feels overwhelmed by how many roles there are and how abstract their abilities are.

She does enjoy other light board games and video games. She understands the basics of it being a social deduction game and can play games like Mafia; but when sitting down 1:1 to slowly explain and teach roles like Fortune Teller or Undertaker she just gets lost when trying to understand it.

She says it's not just me but when other players try to explain the game she feels like this game is a whole different language.

With most other players I've taught, once they grasp the core idea of it being a social deduction game, they are able to grasp most of it by reading the Trouble Brewing script and asking for a couple of rule clarifications and after 1 or 2 games they usually understand what is going on.

Question for the community

  1. Has anyone successfully taught someone who struggled this much initially? What eventually made it click?
  2. Any other tips / ideas for ways to include her in the fun of the game? Let her co-storytell just the thematic elements of the game? Revolutionary pair?

I frequently play with a large group of friends and don't want her to feel left out; though she has stated she doesn't feel left out just watching; I want her to also have a good time

I fully accept BoTC is not for everyone and many people in my friend group just don't invite their partner from attending since they don't like it all; but I hope I can find some other ideas / solutions here as I will likely keep playing the game for a long time
