Has anyone experienced ocular migraines in the first trimester? [ca]

I had an ocular migraine today (my first ever migraine) that lasted about 5-10 minutes with a blurry wavy line that had kaleidoscope colours in my left eye. After, I had a pretty bad headache. I am 10 weeks along and immediately went to my optometrist and he explained that it was an ocular migraine after a few tests to rule out retinal detachment. I had high blood pressure with my first in the third trimester and I’m a bit worried that this could be an early indication of preeclampsia. Has anyone every experienced this? I’ll be seeing my family doctor asap with the hope for an earlier referral to my OB for more guidance. TIA!

What’s your wittiest reply to “I knew it!” when you were announcing your pregnancy?

I will inevitably get another, “I knew it!” comment from my MIL, and I just want to nip it in the bud immediately. It‘s such a distasteful way to make everything about themselves and it sends me into a blind rage because there is no way she “knew it!” How would you respond?

Did anyone tell their employer they were pregnant before close family/friends?

I’m wanting to do things differently the second time around and I’m planning to tell work I’m pregnant asap as logistically it makes the most sense to me. Whereas I’m not wanting to tell my close family and friends until much later. Is it wrong? I felt I was treated very differently in my last pregnancy and it was stressful to say the least. I just want peace this pregnancy without the pressure and constant worry while we enjoy being a family of three for a bit before baby two joins us. My husband is on the same page as me too. Did you do this? Any regrets?

My family constantly “hide” when they are sick to be able to see my toddler and I’m currently in my first trimester and at my wits end [ca]

I have been very clear with my parents and sister about us not seeing them when they’re sick because it’s miserable and any decent person would not want to get anyone else sick. I feel like my family constantly hide when they don’t feel well in order to see my toddler because I won’t go see them when they are sick. I just found out I'm pregnant and we hung out all day yesterday and my sister was coughing and I asked if she was feeing well. She kept saying she wasn’t sick and now my dad text us asking if my daughter is sick because my sister is literally bedridden today. They don’t know I’m pregnant but I’m terrified of becoming ill and I’m just so fucking exhausted of their lack of common sense. I feel like they always prioritize their needs over what I would deem a very SIMPLE boundary. Everytime I call them out on it they always make up excuses for each other and I can’t stand their selfishness. Is it just my family? I find my in-laws are similar as well but not to the extent of my family. Its exhausting.

TLDR; My parents and sister never disclose when they are sick or not feeling well to be able to see my toddler. I’m newly pregnant and they don’t know but I’m constantly scared they are covering for each other and tired of their lack of consideration for us.

Are there any impacts of living in a hot climate/prolonged heatwaves on fetal development in early pregnancy?

I’ve been advised that saunas and hot tubes are not recommended in early pregnancy due to the possibility of neural tube defects from hyperthermia. Does living in a hot climate or being in a prolonged heatwave put the baby at risk aswell? TIA!

Toddler weaning books for 18 month old

Did you have any success with reading toddler weaning books? I’m looking to buy a few for my 18 month old and want to know your favourites. Booby moon seems to be the most popular but I’m really open to any books you had success with. TIA!

Did your toddler self wean when your supply dried up?

I’m still very early, but it’s been excruciating to feed my 18 month old. I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips you have.

Also, did you know right away when your supply stopped? I feel like there has been a dramatic decrease because of the pain and my daughter becoming more frustrated, but there is still milk.

Our new pediatrician was insistent that we sleep train.

Very disappointed that our new pediatrician automatically suggesting sleep training when I said my toddler wakes up multiple times a night.

To my pleasant surprise, no other medical professional or doctor we’ve meet in the dozens or so we’ve encountered have even mentioned anything like that.

It just a bit of a punch to the gut that this is still a “recommendation”. She was so incredibly adamant and kept pushing and tried to convince me even when I made it very clear that’s not what we were going to do and I was absolutely against any form of sleep training. She then went on to explain the chair method and it wasn’t “cry it out” even though eventually they cry and we just sit in the chair but don’t comfort them.

She also stated that my daughter was “too attached” because she was crying and did not want to be examined by her during our appointment.

Just needed to vent because there are so few people in my life that are opposed to sleep training and for a doctor to insist just makes me feel so icky.

Are 8 week ultrasounds no longer offered? [AB]

With my first pregnancy I was offered the 8,12, and 20 week ultrasounds. I just went to see the same family doctor and they won’t see me now until 10 weeks. Has this changed? or is this because it is my second?

First steps to walking independently, how long did it take your toddler?

How long did it take your toddler to walk independently after taking their first steps?

My LO took her first steps around 14 months and the first two weeks she was making great strides, but now over 3 months later she’s still not confident walking independently. She relies heavily on holding our hands and if we encourage her to take a few steps on her own, she just resorts back to crawling. Would love some insight! Doctors aren't concerned, and we would love to help her build that confidence!

Did going back to work impact your attachment?

I will start off by saying I’m in no way ungrateful, I understand that my situation and the time I’ve had at home with my little one is becoming increasingly rare these days.

I’ll be going back to work soonish and my mom and dad will be looking after bubs while I’m working. My LO and parents are close as we see them multiple times a week. I’ll have had 19 months with my LO before I go back to work and I’d like to know from your experiences how working full time changed your attachment?

I definitely need reassurance as I’ll only be able to see my LO for a couple hours during the day and it kills me.

Please share the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between! Im trying really hard to mentally prepare but my heart aches.

Do you match the thread fibre with fabric content? (Cotton with cotton, silk with silk etc.)

I’m sewing with silk organza and I'm trying to find silk thread to match. It got me thinking, do you sew with thread that matches the fibre content? For example, cotton fabric with cotton thread?

I’ve read multiple people saying that they use polyester all around, but in my mind matching the fibre content with the thread makes the most sense?

Is there a tool for this?

I need to punch out semi-circles in the middle of a page to put fabric swatch cards and haven't had any luck finding a tool (punch/die) that does this. Has anyone had any success doing something like this? Thanks!
