Postpartum recovery book recommendations?

Any recommendations on postpartum recovery books?

I'm not worried about postpartum depression as I have felt fine mentally throughout my entire pregnancy, but the women in my family are worried for me. I have ADHD/anxiety and a history of depression when I was a kid/teenager, and of course they all went through it and struggled with it.

So now I'm thinking I may struggle, as it definitely seems the norm and I want to be prepared. My husband will be on parental leave for the first 4 months so I definitely won't be alone for the first few months. But I still would love books or other resources that I can have in hand for when and if things are rough.

I have access to great counseling services already.

I definitely have left this last minute, as I could literally have my baby any day.

Did you baby come early?

First time pregnant and my due date is August 14th, so fast approaching and I'm absolutely terrified my baby girl will come before my mom arrives in the evening of the 10th (she's coming from 5500km). So far I have had zero indication of labour, and am feeling completely normal (just got back from a 30 minute walk with my dog) but I'm still so worried. I have an appointment tomorrow to check to see if I'm dialated, and have opted to not get a membrane sweep, so avoid going into labour.

I have an amazing husband, but my anxious heart is screaming that I also need my mom to be there with me, and I know my husband will also need her support. Literally the only thing on my birth plan other then have a healthy baby, is my mom to be there.

Honestly, just looking for encouraging words, that I will in fact make it till after she is here on Monday (and hopefully after my pedicure on Tuesday 😅)

Baby Monitor Suggestions [CA]

Recommendations for a WiFi free baby monitor. Not sure on budget as it'll be a gift from my Nana. So looking to give her a few different price ranges.

So I've been recommended these 3,

- Leapfrog Monitor

- Hello Baby Monitor

- Infant Optics

Would love to hear more reviews on these, and as well if you'd recommend something different.

Thanks xx

Gifts/items to purchase for 4 months

I always start planning Christmas gifts in July/August. So for that reason, what would you get for a 4 month old? So far I am planning to get another Woolino sleep sack, and a "first Christmas ornament".

I'll also be having a baby shower then, and have zero idea on what to add to the registry other then maybe things needed for when baby starts solids.

Are there any baby wraps for less then 8lbs?

I have a Beluga Baby Buckle Carrier, minimum recommended for 7lbs, but I'm wondering if there's anything out there for less?

I keep seeing soft wrap styles, but they are recommended for 8lbs minimum. I'm going on a camping trip when my baby is 11 weeks and if possible I'd love to carry her for a short 1km hike to a waterfall.

So far, she's estimated to be around 6 to 6.5lbs. At our 36 week ultrasound she was measuring 42 percentile, and just over 5lbs.

Updating my wardrobe and actually committing to downsizing.

How do I go about updating my wardrobe and actually committing to downsizing? I lost 65lbs for my 30th birthday, and then I started to slowly get some new clothes (few pairs of Levi's, some basics like t-shirts, bodysuits, bras etc), and now I'm pregnant (37 weeks on my 31st birthday). I had tossed out all my big clothes (ones that were huge) so the clothes I do have left are from my early to mid 20's and are only around 1-2 sizes too big. The reason I did keep those was for when I did get pregnant, as a safety in case I did gain a lot.

I'm not too worried regarding fitting back into pre pregnancy clothes as I've so far only gained 25lbs, but I also desperately need to get rid of my old clothes and downsize. I just feel so attached to them. Like I currently have 5 big storage totes of pre pregnancy clothes in the basement, plus 3 drawers in my bedroom, and a closet full of hoodies/sweaters (at least 40) and at least 4 different winter coats

Any tips for downsizing and then updating my wardrobe. Before I got pregnant, I used the spare room upstairs as a big walk in closet, but now it's the nursery so I really don't have the space for all these clothes.

Do I need a tummy time/activity gym?

Ftm due in 4 weeks

I have one mat that was my husbands when he was a baby, so it's like 35 years old. But I can't decide if I should get another with an activity gym (hanging things) or if this will be good enough for now.

My worry with hanging stuff is my dog likes to kill soft toys so she will probably try to go after it, and think it's a toy. Also the cats will probably think it's for them as well 😅 I do plan to do most of the baby floor time upstairs in her room (without dog present) or downstairs once I get a playpen set up to keep them separate.

I have been very intentional with my purchases, so I'm so undecided on this.

▲ 10 r/Names

Did you name your baby after some special?

If so, tell me who and why?

My daughter's first name will be Lily, and I've dreamed of using this name for 19 years.

Lily was my 2nd golden retrievers name that my mom got for the family when I was 12. This dog became my emotional support animal and I basically survived the hardest years with my mental health because of her. Without her, I probably wouldn't be here today.

When my husband and I first started dating, a lot of our dates involved taking her on adventures. When she passed, my husband rushed to be with my family for her last few moments and he was absolutely devastated. It was the first time he'd felt the loss of a pet as he never grew up with them. Since the beginning of our relationship we knew we would use this name.

I have 2 different tattoos with lilies involved (my favorite being a portrait of my pup with a flower crown of lilies) and a week after we found out I was pregnant, my husband got a tattoo of a water Lily in honour of my golden.

We only ever had one named picked and from the start (5 weeks) I was referring to her as a girl (even though we didn't find out till 20 weeks). So I'm still over the moon that I'm having a girl and get to use it. I can't wait to officially meet her in a month(ish)🩷

When did you stop lifting heavy things?

Curious when everyone else stopped lifting heavier things. I never chatted with my OB or anything but when my mom was out visiting when I was around 28 weeks, she told me to be careful with lifting things. She lost her first baby after giving birth, and never changed her lifting habits (says she lifted a few heavy dogs in vet school a few weeks before, so I think she still feels guilty that, that may have caused the loss, even 32 years later)

So since then, the heaviest thing I have lifted is my 20lb dog or things I feel weigh the same or less than my dog.

Seafood Boil

I want to do a seafood boil for my birthday in 2 weeks for my husband and I . I've only ever done it camping in a foil pan over the camp fire.

How can I modify this and make it even easier for an at home boil (I'll be 37 weeks pregnant so not looking to work myself or my husband to death for the meal) or is the camping method in foil probably still the easiest and popping it in the oven?

I'm planning to include shrimp, a lobster each, scallops, corn on the cob and sausages.

Traveling with baby at 6-8 weeks old

Ftm here,

My Nana will be visiting 6 hours away when our baby is 6-8 weeks old and asked if we could meet up. Part of me would love too, as she lives 5500km away from us and I've never visited the city she will be in, but also part of me thinks she should be coming fully to us as I'll be 6-8 weeks postpartum (aiming for a vaginal birth) and I couldn't imagine driving 6 hours (probably spilt between 2 days) with a newborn baby.

If you've done this, would you do it again? We would probably only go for 3 days (not including driving time) or should I insist if she wants to see her first great-granddaughter, she has to come to us? (I'd probably get my mom to talk to her about it, as my mom will be with my husband and I for a few weeks after I give birth to help out)

Baby Shower after having baby

Ftm here, due in 5 weeks and feeling kinda sad I'm not having a baby shower before baby is here. 3 people I know who are also ftm, have recently posted on social media there baby showers. I really hate parties and celebrations (my husband and I didn't even have a wedding), but now I'm feeling like I'm missing out.

We have everything we need for baby as I wasn't relying on a baby shower, and even if I wanted to have one. I would have no one to invite as my entire family is 5500km away.

But part of me is sad that I'm missing out on this. And also that my baby will be growing up away from my family. We will be going home for Christmas when she is 4 months, so my mom has offered to host a baby shower then. (She didn't have a baby shower for me, since she did lose her first baby a few hours after she was born, so was too worried to have a shower before I came) So I do take comfort in knowing I'll be doing the same thing my mom did and have the shower when baby is here.

But I'm definitely feeling sad and emotional now regarding not having one before the baby is here. Did anyone else opt to not have one before the baby was born?

If you carried small, how big was your baby?

First time mom here. I'm 5'5 (XS/S in torso length based on my hiking pack size)

I'm carrying small. Currently 34 weeks pregnant and most days my bump is very minimal. Compared to a few people I know due after me, it's half the size even though they are taller then me.

So, if you carried small, how big was your baby?

I have an upcoming ultrasound to make sure everything is okay, but my doctors aren't worried. I've so far gained 22lbs and haven't had many complications other than consistent nausea (thankfully the regular throwing up went away around 22 weeks)

I was 6lbs when I was born (at 38 weeks), and my husband was a 3lb preemie (at 30 weeks)

Dream on me nursery chair [ca]

For those who have purchased this chair, did it become less firm with use?

Just got mine today, and it's pretty comfortable, although I find the neck/head padding/cushion to be very firm. It's the only thing I don't like about it.

I don't want to return it, as it was a gift and it's the perfect size for the space I have. Plus my husband does find it super comfortable.

What are your top tips for a first time mom and post partum recovery?

Due in 8 weeks with our first baby, a girl. I'll be 31 then (she's due 3 weeks after my birthday )

Any tips for a first time mom? I have struggled deeply in the past (teen years) with my mental health so that's something my mom is very worried about for me (I have ADHD, as well as some lovely anxiety. My depression hasn't been an issue for maybe 8 years though, and I haven't had much mental health issues during pregnancy. Other than ADHD paralysis since I chose to stop my meds)

Also my husband wants to know everything he can do to best support me during postpartum (he will be taking mid August to early January off, with the potential for longer depending on how I'm doing since we have no family close by to help after the first 3 weeks)

Tell me something you wish you knew before becoming a parent?

First time mom due in 8 weeks. I'm getting so excited, but also just want all your favorite parenting tips. Things you didn't think about before having your baby. Things you wish someone would've told you before.

Give me all your knowledge. Xx

Thoughts on being induced? [NB]

First time mom here - Tell me how you feel about being induced, or letting baby cook for as long as they need (within reason)

Added information - I haven't been enjoying pregnancy (threw up regularly till 22 weeks, then my vision changed and got worse at 25ish weeks. Currently 31 weeks and the kicks and movement makes me feel so dizzy, nausea and overstimulated)

I also very much need my mom here for the birth and a bit after to support my husband and I. I'm a pretty anxious person (Anxiety, ADHD, etc) and don't like change/surprises, so having it "scheduled" will definitely helped with me mentally.

We also live across the country from family so my mom is scheduled to come out 4 days before my due date, and then can stay a max of 2.5 weeks to help afterwards.

Her estimated due date (August 14) also holds meaning to us, as I'm born July 24 and my husband September 14 and we love the idea of her having a "4" date like us. Plus it's almost right between our 2 birthdays (my dream has always been a summer baby in August)
