EV as solar soaker

Not necessarily Sigenergy-specific but has anyone else bought (or considered) buying a cheap EV to soak up excess solar rather than a new battery stack?

My current 16kWh stack is on the wall bracket so I can’t add more without doing a new inverter etc. I just don’t think it’ll be worth the extra $$.

But we’ll have a lot of excess solar in summer that will only get a 1c FIT (AGL EV plan in SA).

Rather than going to the grid, I was considering getting a cheap EV.

Even without V2X it would be nice to know I’m keeping more of the solar I’m capturing.

edit I should validate this and say we’d be looking to replace one of our cars in the next couple of years. With demand and petrol prices, I’ve been thinking of bringing this replacement forward.

Apple Watch dropped support again?

Feels like we’ve had several months of buggy updates. I had to reinstall the mobile app after it wasn’t working for a week or so, but now it seems the Apple Watch app is crashing (again?).

I’m on watchOS 10.6.2

I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling the watch app and mobile app

When I open the watch app, it tries to load but then crashes.

Anyone else getting the same experience?

Help understanding Energy Source Control for Smart Home Device (HWS) on Gateway

My hot water service is set up on the Smart Port of my Gateway but I’m having trouble understanding the scheduling options.

We’re on a TOU tariff (AGL EV plan)

There are two scenarios I need to sort out:

Self consumption/excess PV (Schedule 4)
- I set this to Surplus PV Only + Battery Boost
- Issue is that the battery boost doesn’t seem to be activating. I don’t see the HWS consuming power.

Self consumption when SOC is >25% (Schedule 5)
- I set this to Battery Level Control
- Device Activation Threshold 55% (I assumed this means that if it’s greater than 55% it’ll use battery, and off if not)
- Device Deactivation Threshold 25% (device should turn off if lower than this)
- issue is that it seems to be importing rather than using the battery

Any thoughts/insight? Thanks!

Help with set up and energy plan scheduling - am I doing it right?

Hi all, we’re just trying to work out if we’ve set things up correctly for our system.

Current set up
- Solar panels: 5.94kW
- Inverter: SigenStor EC 5.0 SP
- Batteries: 2x SigenStor BAT 8.0 (total 16 kWh)
- Gateway: Sigen Energy Gateway
- EV Charger: Sigen EVAC 7 4G T2 WH

Gateway
Backup
- Power and Lights

Smart Load
- Hot Water (moved off the Controlled Load circuit)

Energy Plan
- I was thinking about going to Glo-bird Four4Free or Zero Hero (although on 16 kWh I don’t think we’d export much)
- Set the hot water to heat up during free hours

EV Charging
- Will need to find a good option for this. Charging would need to be overnight

Any tips on what we can do to improve with the existing hardware?
