Mathmech Field Guide: 1 card, 5 interruptions on their turn. 9 going-first lines, with the board after every step

Achichi, Pikari or Circular on its own gets you Terahertz and Heatsoul, with Superfactorial and Cynet Conflict set and Desavewurm in the GY. On their turn, Superfactorial summons Laplacian, which sends a random card from their hand, one of their monsters and one of their Spell/Traps to the GY, then has an omni-negate. Cynet Conflict negates and banishes the activated card, Desavewurm negates a Spell/Trap, and Terahertz sends Packbit to move one of their monsters to their backrow.

Hi, I run theendboard. I wanted to make this guide because of how hard this deck is to learn. Full credit goes to lifepointaker for his decklist and combos. I hope you can learn and appreciate the mighty dragon :P

The basic line from a single Achichi:

  1. Normal Summon Achichi, add Pikari. Dark Infant adds A.I.Land
  2. A.I.Land summons Pikari, and A.I. Meet You adds Wizard. Wicckid, then A.I.Land summons Wizard and Wicckid adds Backup
  3. Backup and Wizard make Saber Dragon, then Splash Mage. A.I. Connect summons Micro Coder and adds Circular
  4. Circular adds Superfactorial, Alembertian adds Addition, then Link Decoder, Transcode and Heatsoul (Micro Coder adds Conflict)
  5. Terahertz sends Desavewurm. Set Superfactorial and Conflict

The guide covers every starter (Achichi, Pikari, Circular, Backup, Sigma, Cynet Mining, Small World, and a line for when they Maxx "C"), with the board after every step, what to do on their turn, a comeback if they break your board, going second, hand traps and matchups. There's also a hand tracker: tap the cards you drew and it shows you the line step by step.

If you play Mathmech and know a better line, tell me and I'll add it.

Artmage Field Guide: 2 cards in hand, 5 interruptions on their turn. Every opening hand's line, end board and interruptions, checked in matches

I run theendboard, a free Master Duel guide site that writes down the board after every combo step: field, hand, GY and what you've already used. This is the core of the Artmage guide. The full version is linked at the bottom.

Everything hangs on 3 different Types

At 3 or more different Monster Types on your field, Diactorus and Finmel get their negates and Graflare's Spell/Trap destroy becomes a Quick Effect.

  • Only face-up monsters count. Acropolis and Vandalism add no Type.
  • The same Type counts once. Diactorus and Medius are both Fairy. Power Patron, Non-Finito and Nerva are all Illusion.
  • So Diactorus + Non-Finito + Nerva is only 2 Types. You need Graflare, Finmel or Litera next to them.

Going first: Medius + any Spell/Trap you don't need

  1. Normal Summon Medius. It Special Summons Power Patron from the Deck.
  2. Power Patron fuses itself and Medius into Diactorus. Power Patron's GY effect adds Acropolis.
  3. Activate Acropolis.
  4. Acropolis: discard the spare and add Graflare.
  5. Special Summon Graflare and Set Varnish from the Deck.
  6. Activate Varnish. With Acropolis face-up it searches instead: add Impasto.
  7. Acropolis: discard Impasto and add Litera.
  8. Special Summon Litera and add Impasto back from the GY.
  9. Set Impasto and pass.

End board: Diactorus, Graflare and Litera (Fairy, Dragon, Spellcaster: 3 Types), Acropolis and a set Impasto. On their turn that's 5 interruptions: Diactorus negates, Graflare destroys a Spell/Trap at Quick speed, Impasto covers monster effects Diactorus can't reach, Litera can bring Power Patron back for a Nerva wipe, and banishing Varnish from the GY stops an attack.

Vandalism, Acropolis or Varnish can start the same line instead of Medius.

Every opening in the guide, and what its board does on their turn

A "spare" is any Spell/Trap you're happy to discard to Acropolis. I checked every line in matches.

Hand End board Interruptions
Medius + a spare (or Vandalism, Acropolis or Varnish + a spare) Diactorus, Graflare, Litera + Impasto 5
Vandalism alone Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera + Impasto 6
Finmel + 2 spares Non-Finito, Graflare, Diactorus, Litera + Impasto 5
Acropolis + Graflare Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera, Finmel + Impasto 6
Power Patron + Graflare Non-Finito, Litera, Finmel + Impasto 5
Power Patron + Finmel Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera + Impasto 6
Medius + Finmel Non-Finito, Medius, Graflare, Litera + Impasto 6
Vandalism + Finmel Non-Finito, Finmel, Graflare, Litera + Impasto 7
Power Patron + Litera Non-Finito, Graflare + Impasto 4
Finmel + 1 spare Non-Finito, Diactorus + Impasto 2
Medius + Graflare + Finmel + 2 spares Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera, Diactorus, Finmel + Impasto, Pact 6

The count is how many different things the board can do on their turn. Some of them share a resource, so you won't use all of them in one turn.

How often it works

The guide solves every possible 5-card hand from its 40-card list:

  • 92.6% make a Fusion with Acropolis on the field.
  • 91.4% reach 3 Types with Diactorus and a set Impasto or Pact.

That's with no interaction from the opponent and without counting Finmel's draw.

Easy to miss

  • Finmel's negate works in either player's Main Phase, so it counts on their turn too.
  • A Set Pact can Special Summon Medius on their turn, and Medius pulls Power Patron for a Fusion.
  • With Power Patron + Finmel, have Litera take back Impasto, not Pact. Pact still works from the GY, so you keep both.
  • Varnish's attack negate from the GY works even with no Medius in your hand.

At the top of the guide you can tap the cards in your opening hand, by their in-game names, and it shows which of these lines fit, with the steps. The guide also covers going second (the Nerva wipe and Super Poly targets), hand-trap answers with how often each one shows up in top lists, the current matchups and the decklist:
