Australian citizen who was visiting Toronto last September under duress (death in my wifes family) received a parking ticket on a car I had rented in the city area and disputed it online. Took them over 6 months to respond and say the ticket is upheld - despite me calling out that i was a foreigner who didn't fully understand the signposting and despite paying for parking, had still been penalised. I also mentioned that at the time I had been helping transport my wife and family to visit their terminally ill father and even provided documents from the hospital to substantiate this.

To be honest - I have absolutely no intention in paying this infringement.. aside from the fact that I truly believe this fine is bullshit, I live in Australia, am Australian and my wife is now an Australian citizen. I have no intention to live or register a vehicle in Canada or toronto in the future or ever.. let alone go back in the medium or even long term future...

I still have the option to request a hearing.. however i assume this would involve another 6 months of waiting and probably at least an all day online video stream where i would be sitting waiting to be heard from a judge (or someone similar) from probably 3am Australian time..

Can someone give me some guidance / opinion here? The rental company I got the car from dont have any valid credit card details of mine (I have since cancelled the card I had at the time).

I’ve read a whole heap of great reviews about the car but I have also read a lot of complaints about the tech / infotainment system not being up to scratch.. this worries me as tech to be honest a bit of a big deal for me in a car..

Anyone have any reassuring comments? 😬
