Daily streaks in apps

Hi everyone! I'm a UI/UX designer currently working at a company that has a reading platform, and I want to convince my manager that adding a streak system does actually make people come back to the app, which could be an enough hook for them to actually end up reading using the app.

Apps like Duolingo, Snapchat, and others use daily streaks to encourage users to come back. I'm curious about your real experiences rather than just whether you like or dislike them.

Do streaks actually increase your engagement and make you use an app more consistently, or do they eventually become stressful, frustrating, or something you ignore?

If you're a parent, I'd also love to hear whether you've noticed streaks motivating your child to keep learning or reading.

Feel free to share examples of apps that got streaks right—or completely wrong. Every perspective is helpful. Thanks!

How do I (31M) stop feeling this way about my friend (29M)?

Hey! So I have met this dude at work. We've been working together for 2 years, and with time, we got closer and found a bunch of common interests, which made us bond even more. We got close that he vents to me when he's facing something, he enjoys hanging out with me, and when I care for someone, I always tend to please them. I make them food, pay attention to what makes the comfortable or bothered, and so on.

I started with time finding him attractive, and slowly fitting into "my type" and I never gave it any importance, until recently for the past few months, where I started kind of.. liking him? I care more about him now. Want to know if he's eaten, if he's okay, or whatever.

Now the deal breaker is the fact that he's straight.. 🤡

We live in Jordan, aka an islamic country and tribal traditions. I'm not religious whatsoever, but he is, which means that in his religion, homosexuality is a big no, and those people will be punished and sent to hell. With time, he became more accepting of me, since I'm the first gay guy he ever befriends.

He recently started asking me to give him neck massages, that evolved to full-on, shirtless back, arms, and chest ones? We'd be watching a movie with a third friend, and he'd just ask me for one, and I of course, don't say no and make it go as long as possible :'l

I really like him and our friendship. Can't simply see him less or cut him off, because before being friends, we're coworkers and we work in the same department, same team, but I don't want my feelings to step in between this. I don't want to get extra attached that I could get jealous if he ends up seeing someone else. I've been there before, and it's horrible.

If I've left out any information or there's anything you'd like to ask, please feel free to do so!

File/ Folder organization?

Heyya!

I own a MBA M5, and where I work, I use the company's 2017 iMac. I'm a designer, and I download quite a lot of assets and images during the day, alongside file exports. My downloads folder looks like a massacre, and I always struggle to find a file from a specific period of time. I usually use spotlight search and write down any keyword I remember related to the file, i.e. "School-icon.svg" and then have to go through tens of results to find what I want.

My personal laptop is still clean, as I tend to delete whatever I download after I'm done using it, but I can't delete stuff at work because I'll end up needing to go back to them at some point.

What are your tips for a more organized workflow and folder organization?
