Post interview timeline

I have my interview for IBEW scheduled in early September for local 481. Without any experience in the electrical field, I’ve been warned my chances of getting in are low. I also have never been the best interviewer in general, but I’m going to try and study the questions and do my best. I’m pretty sure I aced my aptitude test though (only a few questions I didn’t know). So I hope that goes a long way to help.

Anyways, I’ve been saving up money all year with my current job and planned to take a vacation in the fall. How long after the interview does it take to hear back? And then how long after getting accepted / rejected would they call me to begin classes / start work? I’ve heard some stories that people got the call and had to start the next day. They had to literally drop everything to make it work. I know I’m not guaranteed to get in, but I won’t count it out. I if I did, I’d hate to have to cancel my vacation or simply leave my current job without giving my boss a two weeks notice. Is the process really that short notice? If anyone has knowledge on local 481 specifically, that would be great.

Finasteride has made my hair loss worse

24M and have been on finasteride for 4 months now. I’m taking oral 3mg a week on MWF. I know the shedding phase is expected within the first few months, but this is terrible.

My overall hair is thinner and my hairline is sliding back much faster than it ever did before. I’m really not sure what to do. I’ve heard horror stories about finasteride accelerating hair loss to the point of no recovery and I’m praying I’m not one of those cases.

The pictures are my current hair, all from within two weeks. 3 months ago my temples and crown were fine and hairline was better. I started taking the drug at first sign as a cautionary measure and this is the result.

Any advice is appreciated.

Can PS4 play with PS5 versions?

I see the news dropped today that there will be separate port versions across the PS4 / 5. I have a couple questions about this.

I still have a ps4, but most of my friends have ps5. Will I not be able to play with them?

Also, when I ultimately get a ps5, will I have to buy the game again?

▲ 3 r/work

26M. I have a good boss, fair flexibility for appointments and whatnot, and I enjoy most of the people around the office, but that’s all the good there is. The job itself is not my passion. I find my day to day very repetitive, unfulfilling, and mentally draining. Worst of all, boring.

Sometimes I hope a car will blow up in the parking lot or a fire will start just to push some excitement into my day.

I want to work outside and be outside, like humans were made to do. I just don’t know what kindof jobs would give me that chance that aren’t construction / would destroy my body. I just can’t bear sitting down all day but I chose the wrong degree years ago.

Anyone else feel this way?

I’m trying to break into the electrical industry with IBEW. I hear local 481 is very competitive and I don’t stand a high chance of getting in right away.

I’m wondering if it’s smart to submit two apps to both telecom and inside wireman. I’ve already applied to inside but not telecom yet. I’d like to increase my odds of getting selected and beginning work. It’s unknown when either one would get back to me. Is this worth it? Normally I’d apply to both but the fee is $35 so I don’t want to waste my money on two if it won’t matter. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I’m trying to make a career change into becoming an electrician. Thought about this for years and am finally ready. Local 481 is the closest program to me which is where I’ll be applying. I also hear it’s very competitive. For someone with absolutely no experience in this field, what advice do you have for me?

I’ve thought about declaring interest for a helper position on their website but want to wait to see how the interview goes before I quit my current job. Also, what would you say my odds are of getting accepted? I have great grades from HS/ college, but again no electrician experience.

Last question, do you know when 481 will begin doing interviews again? I heard it’s only a few times a year, and the lady on the phone wouldn’t reveal anything about when the next process begins.

Hello, I’m 24 looking for a career change into becoming an electrician. I’m going to apply to my local IBEW to begin taking classes. The application asks whether I’d like to apply to “Inside” or “Telecom”

This is going to sound stupid but which one is closer to the basic electrician that people think of when they hear the word? What’s the difference between them?

Side question too, they keep telling me how competitive this process is. What do you think my odds are of getting accepted after the interview since i have absolutely no knowledge of this field? I have great grades from HS and a college degree (unrelated field though). I’m in Indiana if that makes a difference.
