What References/ inspirations did you guys notice, picked up , or found out while reading LotM? Part 2

  1. Roselle built a sealed artifact which Klein made fun off, it was because it was a subtle saint Seiya reference

  2. Antigonus shares a little in his story with Antigonus I Monophthalmus and other antigonuses.

  3. The entire conflict with the temperance and indulgence faction can be summarized as the conflict between Gooning vs. Edging (trust!)

  4. The demoness pathway regardless of what I said in 4, I should also say that it's obviously inspired by Medusa and succubuses and witches.

  5. Cuttlefish forshadowed kenley's death through the story one of the nighthawks was writing.

  6. "a price is always exacted for what fate bestows" which Adam said is taken from Stefan Zweig

  7. This one is very funny, like too much funny, upon each encounter with TC Klein did one of these things in this order, He saw him, later he heard him, at last he spoke(kinda) and made a deal with him, why is it funny?

Because there's a saying from the three wise monkeys called "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" which Klein didn't go by.

(It may be far fetched but it feels too on the spot to be random or a coincidence, thought it could be)

  1. Zhu mingrui's quick adaptation and fraud skills in tricking people was probably because of what he did in his past life since he'd argue with people online, and once admitted although he reads and consume multiple media, he sometimes only consumes some of it, in a way you can say he's just collecting "ball knowledge" like he did with Big Worthy's book, so in a sense Zhu mingrui is a larper or if you like it more like this "he is a bit performative and likes to brag"

  2. There's a nice detail about mr. Door's ritual which is the jewelry requirements, it's a funny homage to "the picture of Dorian gray" Because I remember there was a long ass chapter where Dorian sits in his room and starts doing nothing but talking about what he has and he had an obsession with jewelry for some reason. (I don't remember but it was probably chapter 11 from "the picture of Dorian gray")

  3. There's also a sealed artifact in the Abraham family which is literally a direct reference to "the picture of Dorian gray" which is the picture of Dorian gray(I forgot the artifact's name)

  4. Klein is traumatized and isn't aware of it, not really a reference but it's a detail that's related to real life, he shows traumatic responses and is either oblivious or in denial of it, it was shown in the side story that CW messed with Klein by turning him into a demoness and when fans asked cuttlefish he said that it was to break Klein and make him lose control (Klein is an unreliable narrator of himself he keeps saying what he believes himself to be but this doesn't nessesary need to be true, for example beyonders lose their humanity as they progress but as seen with Gehrman Sparrow the moment he gained humanity he just wanted to rest, also Audrey could reflect this too since when she abandoned her family her clone was childish and still dependant unlike audrey, in a sense A beyonder doesn't "mature" normally but he keeps losing fragments of his humanity, they lose parts of themselves and never recall they had it even)

So the demoness/women anxiety are less of a meme about fear of women (which is not true since it was confirmed that Klein was not afraid of women through death knell because death knell only gives you a fear which you DON'T have.) and more likely to be unprocessed trauma

  1. Cuttlefish didn't really hide the cultivation elements, it's just that the translation saved it until it became too obvious to hide, Because pathways isn't really the full meaning of each path, it's called "Dao" in Chinese (like in Reverend insanity), which by default makes it funnier Because now that I think about it a beyonder's potion backlash is basically not too different from Qi deviation.

  2. Klein's Word of the sea artifact is apparently a reference to some kind of Chinese drink according to my translator's notes

  3. The seven Orthodox dieties and some evil ones share some similarities to DnD ones.

  4. 21th December, Evernight's winter gifts day is obviously a Christmas rebrand

  5. Roselle's "I glimpsed into the abyss" could mean a lot things since it's a common theme in a lot of literature but knowing Roselle's lazy ass, it's probably something popular so either Faust or Nietzsche.

  6. Roselle also made a four horsemen of the apocalypse reference but I don't remember where clearly, it may be during his travels at see I'm not sure (sorry 😔)

  7. Sauron family are an obvious LOTR reference, which is funny since they used to control the red priest pathway, "ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL" ahh 🥀
