Vet Visit Seemed Odd? Anyone have similar experience for their babies?
(Long post) Okay so I took my mouse to an exotic vet because he’s been scratching like crazy and when eating has been breathing weird. I’ve had him since he was a baby so I know when his habits are off. My mouse has never bitten me or my boyfriend since we’ve had him he’s the sweetest dude. Well the vet came in and Immediately blamed my aspen bedding. Saying it’s toxic and bad for mice and to switch strictly to paper bedding. So that was red flag number 1 for me. She then looked at him whilst he was in his cage saying she doesn’t trust mice because they all bite…. (Fair I guess 😐). She held him for 5 seconds to check his lungs (mind you he sat completely still and didn’t move) so I thought she should have been more thorough. She put him back in his cage. She then proceeded to put her finger in his face saying hi…. He lunged and bit her finger. (2nd red flag, everyone should know not to present their finger to a mouse?!?!) It was giving prove herself right that all mice bite… She looked at his fur for mites with a flashlight for 15 seconds (also not thorough). Does anyone else feel mice don’t get the proper treatment or care. It’s expected they are on their death bed pretty much for anyone to care to treat. She wanted extreme fur lose and scabs to say something was wrong. It’s scary because mice go from 0-100 quickly and for vets to want them to be very sick to care is wrong.
