Decluttering with kids

I will take and all the tips on decluttering with kids.

I have 2 elementary aged kids and they never want to get rid of anything. I already have a rule that if it’s broken, we don’t keep it.

One is also very craftsy so we have tons of art and art projects (not just flat things but like ceramic stuff, etc). They both love legos too. They also do stem summer camps every summer where they make all these motorized things, big projects, etc.

I just feel like we have no more surfaces to display things anymore. And their closets are full of things they’ve made. They will sob when I sell things. I still have been but man is it hard. My almost bigger problem is the things they’ve made and what to do.

Etiquette in campgrounds just gone?

Went camping recently in a more popular state park and was appalled at the behavior. We’ve been camping in other state parks in previous years and have never come across this. Honestly I don’t really want to camp more if this is going to happen all the time. Or I need to figure out how to backpack camp with kids.

We were in a cart in site but it wasn’t very private. However, our neighbors were all loud and obnoxious. From setting up a projector and shining the projector light directly at us to being super loud well past 11pm to hotboxing the place with marijuana so I could smell it from the parking lot to blasting music on a speaker and swearing at me when asked politely if they could turn it down a bit. Is this the norm now? I just want to get out, have a screen free few days and enjoy nature.

Edit: thanks for everyone for the encouragement. I thought about calling the ranger station but figured they wouldn’t honestly care. So if this happens again, I will call them. Is it just the number on the park website? Also does anything happen if I report them the next day if a ranger isn’t there at night? I really don’t feel comfortable calling the police for something like this though.

How much do you spend on birthdays?

Age old question but how much do you spend on birthday presents? My kids are getting older (8-12 years old) and wanting more expensive things. Not sure what to budget for birthday presents. I want to strike a balance between making them happy and not spoiling them!

Edit to add a couple things: we don’t have a huge birthday party so not spending a ton there

Help with starting a colony!!

Ok, so I live in the country and get a lot of strays at my house. They seem to come in one at a time or sometimes 2-3 come at once. I’ve been catching them, getting them fixed and vaccinated. I’ve rehomed a handful, moved a couple inside (limited by my husband to 2), and a few that aren’t rehomeable are happily living in my garage.

However I now ended up with a few that I can’t find homes for but my house and garage are full. I don’t have a barn and I don’t want to put a cat door on the garage (have a lot of other critters that come by). Any tips on starting an outdoor colony without a barn? Would getting a small shed with a cat door work? Any tips on getting pretty feral cats to stick around? I live in Minnesota so winters can be very cold. Any tips appreciated!!

Or any tips for rehoming. I have two friendly ones I can’t find homes for. Have put posters up, posted all over social media. But I keep getting people that was them to be all happy to meet the person instantly. They’re cats though!

Anyone looking for a cat friend?

I have a lot of strays that show up at my house and am trying to homes for them. THEY DO NOT NEED TO GO TOGETHER. They are not bonded. I have looked for their owners extensively but no luck.

Attached are pictures of Froggy (Tabby) and Nutmeg (Orange medium/long haired). They came to my house as strays and are needing a good home. Located in Mankato.

Froggy is probably 1-2 years old and snuggles right into you when picked up. He is soft pawed (doesn’t use the claws he has). He loves pets and belly rubs. Loves to snuggle with my kids.

Nutmeg LOVES people. He will be by your side wherever you go and keep you company. He is around 9-12 months old. Does well with kids too.

Both are neutered, rabies vaccinated, flea treated and dewormed.

Asking $50 or whatever you can afford to help cover vet costs. Message me if interested!

Why are items not available again?

Just went on to order more things and suddenly a bunch of stuff is only available from local shipping and not direct from Temu. Did something happen again? I’m in the United States.

Finding homes for friendly strays?

I get a lot of feral cats at my place but every once in a while I get a friendly one and need to find it a home. Only problem is I currently have 3 friendly ones that I can’t find homes for. Have been posting on Nextdoor and Facebook. Any other ideas?

Also, our local shelters and rescues are full so they’re not able to help. And my family and friends are already full up on cats and can’t take any more.

Thanks!

TNR siblings question

Help! I have this weird system where only one new cat shows up to my house at a time. Every time I catch one to TNR then a new one shows up. Which works great for trapping them.

However, I just had presumed siblings show up the same day. How do I trap them together so one doesn’t realize what a trap is? Or does that not happen? I have two live traps so I could put both out but not sure if I should do that or if I should put them in separate spots or right together. Any tips would be appreciated!

Is it ok to ask host if they have weights? [Minnesota]

Going on vacation in a couple weeks to an Airbnb I booked awhile ago. I just started a workout program that needs weights. Won’t be a big deal if I don’t have weights because vacation. But would it be ok to ask the owner of the Airbnb if they have any I could borrow? I don’t want them to feel like obligated to get them or something crazy.

Edit: a few clarifying things.

  1. I was just asking about like 5 lb dumbbells. Nothing crazy

  2. I have small children that I cannot leave alone so gym is out of the question

  3. I heard you all - I won’t ask!
