Making a hard decision

I made the decision to rehome my beloved budgies. Sadly things just didn't work out.

Since I got them I've had a big issue: if I fed them the exact amount everyday they needed, the hens would get really territorial and no social bonds would form. When I gave them unlimited food they formed bonds, but they got really fat. I had to choose between the budgies social lives and their physical health. No matter what I tried to resolve this, nothing worked with the space I had for them.

Also as my career progressed, I had less time to properly care for them/spend time with them.

I had to be honest with myself and make the decision to give them a better life that is not within the walls of my house.

I asked my boss at work if they could live there and he happily took them in. Now they live in an aviary outside and will soon welcome a 6th family member once they've settled in.

I consultated a vet and she also told me it would be best for them. Now they are forced to move more to get to food and enrichment, lose weight and encourage social behaviours. I still see them everyday at work and care for them, but now they live outside and I am not alone with their care, also the aviary is much easier to clean.

I hope I did what is best for them.

My new OBT enclosure (+C. versicolor)

(UV light was only used for these pictures!)

My OBT needed a rehousing for a while now, I had bad mold issues in his old enclosure and he also grew out of it.

I switched to a new substrate and so far it's been going well in the set ups where I use it.

I just rehoused my OBT like a few minutes ago, that's why he's stressing in the corner up there.

In the back the substrate goes higher up, I was going for a slope again and overall I am really happy with how it turned out. I did forget to put his water dish before I put him in, so I'll be doing that tomorrow when he has hopefully settled in a bit.

He's also the sweetest OBT ever ( I literally love him sm), rehouse went so well and only took about 5 minutes since I was much less scared than last time (though I was still sweating)

I set up my new C. versicolor enclosure a while ago, but I forgot to post. She's in premolt currently, otherwise she's usually always out and about :) so I thought I'd just include it here.

OBT feet

Look at those beautiful feet, he could be a footmodel (^.^)

Also, I still don't want to believe he's a male 🥲

My mom loves flowers so I freestyled this today within a few hours.

I used pipe cleaners, fairy lights, hot glue, a gold chain, wire and beads

I am usually too shy to post my crafts, this is my first time, please be kind😅
