Comrade Brezhnev during his visit to Poland in 1965. He had a weak spot for hunting, guns, and fast cars. But Soviet people liked him because "Lenya enjoyed life and didn't obstruct others from enjoying life as well" - Леня сам жил и другим не мешал

A letter published in the Soviet teen magazine SOBESEDNIK in July 1986. A Soviet teenage girl shares a story about what kind of guys her friends liked. The majority preferred athletes because "they travel everyhere, and bring nice clothing."

Ambush for a Groom

Recently, we started talking in a group about guys. Some girls like handsome ones, some like smart ones. But the majority of girls are crazy about athletes. I tried to prove to them that strength is not the most important thing. My words caused nothing but laughter. "They travel everywhere and bring back clothes"—that was their argument. One girl even declared: "I would take even the most run-down athlete, and I would fight for him all my life." Another one went to Moscow and spent the night near the "Spartak" training base. She kept waiting for someone to pick her up. She literally said: "...will pick me up." A third girl told us that she flooded Rinat Dasaev with letters.

I wonder how the athletes themselves look at such greedy contenders for a wife?
