The Gorgon super-heavy troop transport is a poorly designed military vehicle. (Even for 40k)

Reading about them being used in the Siege of Vraks, I always thought the Gorgon was an interesting vehicle, a massive troop carrier that can carry a platoon's worth of men to the frontline.

However, a game I play called Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront has a fantastic 40k mod on the Steam Workshop that recently added the Gorgon to the Death Korps of Krieg.

Looking at the in-game unit, the vehicle isn't really great for combat. It's basically a WW2 landing craft with heavier armour, treads, and guns on the sides.

The top gun crews and the passengers are heavily exposed to grenades, mortars, and artillery shells, as the Gorgon has no enclosed roof to protect them. One shell could hit the gunners, spraying shrapnel toward the passengers and causing high casualties.

Because the ramp drops from the front, the men just charge right into enemy fire, putting them at risk for no reason.

They could have designed it with a roof; the ramp could drop from the back, and the guns could be enclosed and at the front instead of the back. Allowing the troops to exit with more protection and covering fire.

Funny enough, 40k already has a vehicle like this: the Crassus Armored Transport, which is better in every way compared to the Gorgon.

I do like the Gorgon, but it's just a ridiculous vehicle when you think about it.
