Why does every conversation end up becoming a job referral request?

I don’t know if it’s just me or anyone else faces this.

Whenever I start talking to someone new—online, offline, LinkedIn, college groups, even random acquaintances—the conversation is going great for 5 minutes.

Then suddenly:

“Bro, any openings?”
“Can you refer me?”
“Can you check my resume?”
“Any hiring in your company?”

At this point, I genuinely wonder whether people are talking to me or to the possibility of a job. 😂

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the job market is tough and I try helping whenever I can. But sometimes it feels difficult to build genuine friendships or connections when every conversation eventually turns into career assistance.

Anyone else experiencing this? Or is this just an occupational hazard of working in recruitment?

Got responsibility to acquire 2000 blue-collar users in 10 days. Need guerrilla ideas 😭

I work in a talent management company in Bhubaneswar with a pretty good package.
Recently our company started building a platform focused on blue-collar hiring — mainly for 10th / 12th / diploma students looking for jobs.
During one internal discussion I randomly kept giving new ideas (mate chull thae sabubele nua points debare 😂), and somehow the CEO liked my inputs.
Now bro literally gave me the responsibility for the product launch + getting first 2000 users in 10 days 💀
Target audience:
10th pass
12th pass
Diploma students
Job seekers from Odisha mostly
Problem:
This audience is not active on LinkedIn or Product Hunt type platforms.

Need smart/guerilla suggestions from people who have done grassroots user acquisition in India.
What would YOU do if you had:
10 days
low budget
Odisha audience
blue collar users
No corporate answers please 😭

The Mystery of the Bag

One of my teammates who was doing an internship at our company was from KIIT.

Bro used to take breaks multiple times a day… but the weird part? Every single time he left, he carried his entire bag with him 😭

And whenever he came back, he’d be completely silent for a while.

To this day I still wonder what secret side quest bro was on 💀
