Thoughts on this new short?

Thoughts on this new short?

It just puzzles me how in the end the three enemy brawlers simply disappear as if they were respawning. It seems like more in-game mechanics actually exist in the lore.

Name aliens who got completely powercreeped or became totally useless

Stinkfly fell into oblivion after the classic series, since there are at least 5 other aliens that do the same thing as him and even better (Ben also doesn't seem to like transforming into him)

Ripjaws never had a very strong presence, but it's just incredible how much he's outshone in his only function by two aliens from andromeda.

From now on I'm only going to play aggro on gem grab

Seriously, dude, what kind of team composition was that? I didn't even focus on getting kills in either of the two matches.

Powercreep in this game is INSANE (+ yapping about the problem with skill and the lack of it)

Brawl has always suffered from a lack of balance, and technically speaking, it's literally impossible to have a 100% balanced meta due to various factors, but I feel like this is getting out of hand.

When I was pushing colt to gold 3 last year, I was in the middle of that awful hypercharge meta, and it was HORRIBLE. No matter how good my aim and positioning were, I was always easily killed by any character just by mashing buttons, and I was still being criticized for it. Colt simply didn't had the necessary abilities to deal with that and was just a punching bag, and even today I feel it's extremely easy to be killed by characters like that.

Currently, we have a chaotic meta made up of brawlers with buffies and new brawlers, most of whom have mechanics that give them a huge advantage compared to the old ones. Naija in release could annoy and kill you from the other side of the map just by pressing auto-aim; she was literally a sniper jacky. Addressing the elephant in the room, Damian is literally an improved and 1000 times more annoying version of primo. He has several utilities, and his super is an instant team wipe tool with almost zero possibility of counterplay, and you can barely avoid it. I really feel that the excess of broken mechanics is ruining the risk-reward and strategy factors of the game, because those who win and have fun are usually the ones who pick the most broken brawler of the month. Using Sam as an example: an effective player against decent oponents has to multitask; he walks, heals himself, has to position his gloves in a place where he can grab it and maintain pressure, use the walls to his advantage, open his third eye, use his push gadget at the right moment, just to make ONE SINGLE KILL. Meanwhile, damian just smashes the screen with his face and manages to do a clutch. It's simply unfair.

I liked the buffies idea because they promised to update the old brawlers, giving them reworks and transforming simple or toxic abilities into less effective, but more useful alternatives who adds more depth into the character and fixes old flaws in creative ways. This actually worked with several, such as Colt, Mortis, Leon, and recently, Edgar. However, given Supercell's nature, greed takes over, and several ones only served to become temporarily broken via expensive, shiny unlockables. Bull and Bibi became substantially weaker in their base kits and much stronger with buffies, turning into team wipe aberrations. Bibi's main issues were not fixed and she was just overtuned only to be nerfed right after, and the flaws in Bo and Nita's kits have also not been addresed; Nita still relies on bruce to do anything and Bo is still a massive noob stomper with zero competitive use. That was a real disappointment, and I hope they fix it (although hopes are low).

I wasn't able to express myself the way I wanted, but that's basically it. Comment what you think.

I just ran out of ideas, so just give me your headcannon about your favorite brawlers and I'll rate it with passion

Colt is proficient with various types of weapons and ammunition, result of the rigorous training imposed by his parents, a pair of criminals. His marksmanship surpasses the capabilities of almost any regular human, except for Piper and Pierce.

Poco has the ability to travel between the world of the undead and the real world. His healing ability comes from the hidden power of music to bring life, still unknown to most living beings.

Jacky's ability to return damage is actually her capacity to absorb kinetic energy, allowing her to jump with her jackhammer like a pogo stick. This ability came from her direct contact with the gems, after the explosion in the "Trouble in the Mines" tape.

What exactly makes Sam so bad?

Okay, I think it's time to break the silence. I see many, but like, MANY users in this sub sympathizing with Sam. Even though he's forgotten in the game and even by Soupcell, here he's often mentioned when we talk about reworks and changes. Some dudes even have customized flairs dedicated to him ("sam can hyperfist me🥵"). I know he's bad, but why exactly?

I recently maxed him out, and I think he's AMAZING, he's so much fun and puts on a lot of pressure because he's a hybrid of assassin and tank. He's one of my top 3 favorite picks in solo modes, and in 3v3 he performs like any aggro brawler. What I really feel could change about him is probably his healing star power, which should be passive, as he doesn't function well without it, and his secondary gadget and star power which are HORRIBLE. He might not be the best assassin, but I think he's great at messing with squishies.

Aside from that, are there any other changes he should make to his base kit?

Is Shelly the "peashooter" of Brawl Stars?

In PvZ, the Peashooter is the initial attack plant, serving as the first line of defense. It's useful at the beginning, but as you progress, it's replaced by stronger and more versatile plants, becoming obsolete.

Shelly is the starting brawler and the one who introduces the game to you. She proves herself strong from the start, being a resilient fighter and excellent at ambushes. However, the lack of range and consistency in her attacks, along with low mobility, ultimately weighs heavily on her shoulders, causing her to be progressively outmatched by better anti-tanks such as griff, otis and even her trio partners. Therefore, she has zero participation in competitive matches, being used only recreationally on ladder, mainly in SD.

In fact, every single time Shelly has become strong in the meta, it's been due to the addition of new unlockables, such as star powers (band-aid), hypercharges (first batch) and buffies (clay pigeons buffie, also first batch), or because *drian overbuffed her way too much(movement speed buff in late 2023). Aside from those moments, she's always been average at best, and currently she's already declining again, even thoug she's a buffied brawler. She essentially only has one function and is terrible at everything else; her arsenal of abilities doesn't extend much precisely because she's the starting brawler.

Perhaps Shelly is cursed for being the tutorial brawler? I don't know, but she gives off a strong impression of having a certain programmed obsolescence.

Could the two narratives in the lore be connected?

The BS lore essentially has two versions: the one told through ARGs by Starpark.Biz, the investor video, WKBRL and the 8-bit minigame, which present a more realistic and frightening approach, revealing Starr Park as a site of unethical experiments attempting to mask everything through false smiles, but leaving supernatural phenomena and activities escape, being told between the lines. The second is through CCTV, which shows a lighter and more comedic representation of the lore, closer to the game, revealing everything as an incident that generated a butterfly effect that ended in a collective hysteria, culminating in the destruction of the park and the rise of the brawlers, now permanently altered. It's practically a consensus that there was a retcon in the lore due to the 2-year gap until the lore was resumed and the difference between the two narrative points...

But what if the two realities are the same, but with different perspectives and viewpoints?

Sirius' lore recently reverted to the old style used in Colette's brawl talk, which is now private. This style portrays the brawlers in a more realistic way, with a vibe more geared towards corporations. The fact that they alternated between this style and the style seen in the game made me think that the two realities would be complementary, but with different interpretations. The game's style would be a lighter, more child-friendly version, showing events as we normally see them, while the ".biz" style would be the real and realistic approach.

We know that the game essentially knows it's a game due to several phenomena, such as: The presenter's reverse speech, saying "in the future, kids will control us with their bright rectangles"; Edgar and Colette's lines mentioning the game's name, Kenji in his presentation saying he's "going back to Brawl," Janet in the Subway Surfers collab trailer looking directly at the screen and breaking the 4th wall, as if she knew we were there. This made me think that perhaps the game is just a fictional representation of the experiments that take place in the park, as a way of masking or disguising what is actually happening. We know that fights happen frequently in the lore; we've seen them fighting each other several times for no reason, but everyone sees it as a friendly act. The characters are always there, and we control them through their perspective. They aren't just soldiers thrown to die; each one has their own personality and motivations. What if all we control is actually the brawlers being forced to fight each other throughout the park, always driven by irrational desires, just to serve as attractions? In this game, the people literally had their lives, and even their appearances and features, ruined due to the effect of the gems. Fernanda confirmed on twitter that they feel pain when they die, but at the same time they'll just keep respawning every single time. They are literally in a vicious cycle of pain and torment, but are forced to continue nonetheless, perhaps due to the influence of the gems, and the park keeps them in secret for unknown purposes. The current style would translate to a game where we control one of them in a more comical and lighthearted way, disguising secrets that are better kept hidden.

TLDR: My interpretation is that, basically, the two realities are interconnected, and that the game version would only be the interpretation of events translated into the game, while the real lore happens like the investor's video.

Jacky should have had her shield during her super back.

I really feel like Jacky's super is starting to get back to what it was originally. Every time she uses her super, she dies because she's too exposed and has no way to mitigate the damage. Back in the day, the super had an activation delay accompanied by a 50% shield that lasted for 2 seconds, and it was so bad that it was recommended to you to NOT use it because it could kill you and cost you the match. The delay was then removed, and Jacky could attack as soon as she pulled, but she lost her shield, making the super just usable. Currently she is so fragile that she can't get close and dies if she did, so why not bring it back?

Brawlers that would 100% get along well for no actual reason

Grumpy worker with a shitty job, grumpy female worker with a shitty job. Yep, a friendship will definitely blossom from this. Jacky doesn't seem to be friends with literally anyone, so why not speculate?

Is Colt still good?

When his buffies arrived, I saw some people saying it was only a matter of time before Colt went back to the bottom of the pit where he used to be, but honestly that's not happening at all, not as I thought. Colt didn't received any direct buffs beyond an massive increase in his health, just more versatility added to his kit, which was something he lacked since the game's global launch. Transforming speedloader into a debuff gadget was brilliant, both for making colt's defense and effectiveness easier, and for eliminating his most toxic aspect, making him less punishing for beginners and increasing his skill ceiling overall. The nerf to his ammo steal really had an effect, since he went from being a hard counter to tanks and assassins to having situational defense, but his first star power buffie and hyperbuffie are still extremely strong and have huge impact during his gameplay, since they are permanent abilities.

Perhaps his effectiveness has declined due to the arrival of edgar and griff in the meta, but I still think he'll find his niche as a wall breaker, since he's quite versatile now and can really get things done.

u/Srexplosivo14 — 14 days ago

I don't know about you guys, but the HP buff really did work on him. It's much harder to take him down before he gets close, since his health is comparable to that of a tank. He literally gained 1000 more health than he always had in a span of just 6 months, which, combined with the other buffs he received, such as his main attack aiming reticle rework and super's damage buff, makes a significant difference on his interactions. Snipers simply can't take him down properly, since his shield star power absorbs most of the damage, forcing them to hit one extra attack, which is fatal for them. He can execute combos with much more consistency due to his fresh kicks star power and super recharge, making him a team wipe machine.

I won't even mention the nasty attack + super + gadget + attack combo, which is the equivalent of a mini shelly super. Every time he dives into my team, he causes at least some massive damage, which is very annoying. His hypercharge is still something to take into account, since it removes any possibility of counterplay. Perhaps it's an exaggeration to ask for a nerf?

Supercell probably did this to avoid having to deal with hair physics as some sort of optimization, or it was simply a design choice. I have no doubt about the first option, given that some characters lack detail in areas that are usually covered, suck as jacky's hair under her helmet.
