TIL Withers and Shar Dated

According to the Wiki Shar | Forgotten Realms Wiki | Fandom

"During the time of the Netherese pantheon, Shar had been an ally of Jergal, the then god of death and the dead, who at the time admired her seductive grace and unspeakable evil and even formally courted more than once, though he knew full well she only tried to manipulate him."

So not only did Withers Sleep Shar, but he absolutely knew she did not care about him and the relationship was mostly sexual.

I don't know what to do with that information, but it exists and is absolutely canon.

What's the General consensus about the falklands war.

I've always had the impression that the falklands war was as reasonably justified as any of Britains wars, at least post world war 2.

There was never an indigenous population that Britan displaced, Argentina was a settler colonial state that inherited spains claim and only partially occupied the Island for 7 years which ended in 1832. Argentina probably would have gotten the Falklands if they'd been diplomatic and waited with lobbying, finally argentina was a fascist or fascist adjacent state that started the war to distract from issues at home, mainly human rights abuses and the general failure of the Junta.

As a general rule the British army was rarely on the right side of an issue , and Margaret Thatcher was a truly awful human being but the falklands seemed like a fairly defensible war.

Please correct me If I'm wrong or state your own opinion.

Discussing Racism in Ireland

Robert Recently reposted this on bluesky

Quote

"In case any of the white Americans who love to go on about Ireland being a utopia have missed it:

Two Black men were murdered in as many weeks in Dublin recently, and there's currently a lynch mob going around in Belfast setting fires to building."

End Quote.

I thought I'd provide context and a place to discuss the issue, to give people context and prevent fearmongering.

One black man was killed in the Republic last month, Yves Sakila, in an event similiar to the george floyd murder but it was untrained security guards not the police. He was homeless, stole a bottle of perfume and was choked by private security for 5 minutes which stopped when the actual police arrived, they stopped the choking and tried to give him medical attention but he died at the hospital.

The second black man who was killed was Qayyum Balogun, a nigerian nightclub promoter who was murdered by trying to protect a woman from a group of teenagers. This murder took place on Grafton street, which is one of the main streets in Dublin, the killers seemed to be black but are mostly tough guys trying to be "roadmen", this does not seem to have racial motivations at all. The area was heavily policed, the men who carried out the killing was black and this just seems to be a murder that happens in a medium sized city.

Ireland has deep underlying racist issues especially in recent years, its not reaching anywhere close to popular levels and have completely failed to get into government, but the rioting in dublin in 2023 as well as multiple far right rallies have become a presence. There have been a sporadic and low intensity arson campaign where racists have attempted to burn down asylum centres. I believe its around 38 total attacks over the last 5 years against asylum centres.

Belfast is absolutely doing a pogrom right now, that's an objective truth. After the brutal attack by a Sudanese Migrant where the man tried to essentially behead him with a knife and cut out one eye. Loyalist groups in belfast have responsed by engaging in a pogrom, Multiple houses were lit on fire, rioters broke down doors and beat up families inside. A 2 month old baby had to be evacuated by the police alongside his family whiles a 70 year old dementia patient is now in the hospital. Multiple black people have just been beaten in the street, one was beaten unconscious, at least 8 homes have been burned and we even have reports of people setting up checkpoints to harass migrants.

Northern Ireland is seperate from the republic and has a whole different history but an underlying layer of poverty and sectarian tension make it much more volatile than anywhere else in Ireland or the UK.

The fact masked men were willing to go out, break down doors and do checkpoints is not something that would have been attempted in other places in Ireland, or even the UK so quickly. Events could very much happen like this in other places, but the rapid escalation to extreme violence hostility to being filmed, and relative organization of the violence is a sectarian scar from the troubles.

The republic of Ireland, due to ranked choice voting, the civil wars it had, the negotiated end to the troubles and just general political life tends to be very centrist. They will do something but it won't be enough and it won't be in time.

Northern Ireland is very extreme to due still being a very divided society, it tends to gridlock as radical nationalist and unionists tend to block each others main goals so little will get done that way. Unionists do seem to be willing to tackle the riots, and nationalists are supporting them but I'm not betting on that coalition lasting, just given how history here goes.

This means its likely going to be up to london to try to sort the issue and they tend to simply not understand NI.

The type of government crackdowns you can get away with in england during the southport riots are simply a lot more dangerous and harder to enforce in NI, and I do not trust starmer to be able to handle that balancing act.

Who are the Worst Women in History

Everyone agrees the worst men in history are some ranking of Hitler, Stalin and Mao with King Leopold, Pol Pot Idi Amin or some variation of dictators.

This made me curious on who were the worst women to ever live.

Just as a guess Jiang Qing who was Mao's wife was hugely involved in his regime and a lot of his evil and might qualify as the worst woman to ever live.

Magda Goebbels was probably the worst woman in the third reich given her effective role as first lady of Germany but did have the power of Jiang Qing.

Female Guards at Concentration Camps would also be a big one.

Madame LaLaurie and other female slave owners in American History certainly qualify as on par with concentration camp guards.

Madame Nhu of South Vietnam was a truly terrible person as well to the extent both her parents disowned her publicly.

Imelda Marcos and Elena Ceaușesc qualify and have had episodes before.

You could also put Margarat Thatcher and Indira Gandhi as bastards.

There is also Ranavalona I of Madagasgar who reduced its population from 5 million people to 2.5 million people in 33 years whiles trying to oppose European powers trying to take Madagasgar whiles also trying to do the same thing to other people.

Anyone else have any suggestions for the list.

I was just reading about how Oliver Cromwells Surgeon used to eat the skulls of Irish people to cure diseases and how that was a huge trend in British Royalty.

This got me thinking what are the most interesting Irish Bastards.

Eoin O Duffy was a revolutionary war hero turned fascist who is suprisingly okay with Jews but and was also Gay.

Ian Paisely was Britain "And Irelands" david duke as a sectarian hate preacher who was ridiculously stubborn then has a very weird redeption arc which is like if Malcolm X and David Duke somehow became best friends.

Lord Castlereigh, a realpolitic expert who helped supress the 1798 rebellion and also defeat napeoleon, he's one of the founders of real politic and nearly became PM before the guilt of his life caused him to kill himself.

Lord Edward Carson and Sir henry wilson, both were major figures in the creation of Northern Ireland and in WW1 and you can cover the incredibly under reported Curragh Incident where Britain nearly split into a civil War. Carson is more sympathetic than Wilson who was a fascist.

Michael O'Dwyer the Irish man who ordered one of the most brutal massacres of indian civilians in the 20th century. You could cover his families fueds with the IRA and the Irony of a man doing colonial violence then returning home to find his hometown suffering the same type of violence from the Empire he supported.

You could do something on Charles Boycott, the literal namer for the term boycott, It covers the Irish land wars which were an interesting time where "the english hunted peasant, the Irish hunted landlords". Ironically Boycott himself was not a particularly nasty guy, he just got unlucky and he was allowed to come back to Ireland.

John Toyler who was a hanging judge who was known for being a sadistic corrupt bastard, in 1800s Ireland, among the english which was impressive and its an interesting peroid of time.

If you went back further to the 9 years war its an incredibly interesting time. Its relevant as its the essential invention of British settler colonialism which would be used from the Americas to Palestine. Somebody like Henry Bagenal would be a guy to cover and its only where you have people like the pirate queen of galway and the effective last king of Ulster Hugh O Neil who is geniunly one of the most complex and Interesting figures in Irish history, the man at one point ended up commanding the Irish army rebelling against Britain, and the British army sent to crush the rebellion, at the same time.

Does anyone else have any suggestions or want to know more about any of those figures.
