Finally a photo of the new 2026 rose release: Sir David Beckham

From this article published today:

https://www.thetimes.com/life-style/wildlife-nature/article/david-beckam-harper-rose-chelsea-flower-show-g9b9j5ph7

It will only be available in the UK this year and should show up here in America in 2 years.

I really would have liked to have seen a rose released for Sur David Attenborough this year to mark his 100th birthday, but we got David Beckham instead… womp womp.

Is it crazy to think I could keep Charles de Mills in a container?

Photos are mine from the Tacoma Rose Garden, where I first saw Charles de Mills in person. I do know that he suckers like crazy... some people reporting him overtaking a 10' x 10' area - I've even heard tell of larger patches!

I really, really want to grow this rose. I assume it'd be pretty easy to root a cutting - but how long could I keep him in a container? Would I just need to divide him every few years? I'm in a rental these days and all my roses are in pots.

Has anyone successfully contained this beastie boy? Talk to me.

Climbing rose Strawberry Hill in the obelisk in my old garden, along with Falstaff next to her, Vanessa Bell, and several other roses. Please excuse the weird fence… this was a kind of “catio” space for my cats and one of them had no problem jumping a 6 ft fence, so I made it into a little kitty garden prison 😂.

I recommend Strawberry Hill here quite a lot and I thought this video would show you why. Incredibly healthy, hundreds of buds on this one (I counted once) and great fragrance.

This whole space used to be a weedy lawn that I dug up myself. Miss this garden so much!

Tiny Abraham Darby band from Rogue Valley Roses already blooming his little heart out with an impressive bloom. I’ve had Abraham Darby before and he’s one of my very favorite roses. I still have a cutting from that other plant that I need to repot - it’s also about to bloom, but I wanted a second Darby. Had to laugh that, even at this tiny band size, he’s already producing a large, beautiful flower.

Definitely a rose I always want to have in my garden.
