[Long Post, Seeking Advice] Childhood Friend Reached Back Out After ~Year of Silence
I've moved around all my life-- I mean, we're talking moves way into the double digits. Because of that, I never really kept friends around for long. I had this one childhood friend who was great, but because we were just kids when I moved, we didn't really talk after that, naturally. However, she reached out to me via a family member's social media to reconnect after at least 10 years of living our own lives. I was so excited. I immediately reached back out to her, and we picked up our friendship in our adulthood as if we were those little kids all those years ago.
I found out shortly after that she was going through some stuff, and I was there for her to offer advice and give her a shoulder to lean on. After that season had passed, however, and she seemingly had a better environment + better relationships with new people, I began to see her/hear from her less and less. I also noticed a sharp drop in conversation when she once got upset that it took me about a week to get back to her via text. (Disclaimer, I'm always really open with people that, because of my career, I have a really hard time getting back to people via text quickly. It's why I almost always call, especially because it's easier for me to call AND do something at the same time instead of stopping everything to draft 1 text for five minutes.) Even though I still kept trying to text her, reach out to her, invite her to things and plan entire "girl's day out"s just for us when it was convienent for the both of us, she suddenly stopped answering my texts with her otherwise very ordinary quickness, wouldn't answer my calls, and routinely said yes to plans that I would purposely plan at least a month in advance so she could fit it in her schedule only for her to drop out at the last minute, sometimes even the day of.
I decided to end the relationship when I noticed two things. First, the last ~three months of our friendship were really just her complaining to me about another relationship she'd formed (that I'd warned her against this whole time for the very reasons that were ruining their relationship now), even when I would drive down hours just to see her-- it seemed like I was becoming just "the friend I go to complain to". I love being there for my friends, and I'll always be a confidant to my loved ones, but this is all our relationship was at this point. Second, I had a celebration coming up that was for a HUGE life milestone for me (I'm keeping a lot of things, including this, vague for anonimity) and I once again invited her with almost 3 months advanced notice in hopes she'd be able to make it, for her to "have plans already" that day.
At least to me, I feel like this whole situation is morally grey-- but I still just didn't want to keep spending the time I have to make plans with someone who would pull out 95% of the time, and if they didn't, it would just be a counseling session. In any case, I got rid of her number, removed her from a messaging app I have, and that was it. It has been about a year now, and I just saw that I have a friend request from her on my messaging app. I haven't gotten a text, call, anything this entire year. What should I do? Should I add her back and try to see if things are different, or should I just ignore it?
