So I’d like to preface this by saying I’m new and I mean New to moderating on Reddit. I couldn’t moderate my way out of a wet paper bag.

I have started a satire sub that has one humble goal, Ban every Reddit user. Let’s not be pedantic about the task. I am grounded in reality to understand it’s not realistic. Just a good bit of fun. Something I can use to not take seriously and learn the ins and outs of how to setup bots and the like.

I basically just learned that it’ll require YAML coding and other bits of coding that I just do not understand. I have never been a coder. I’ve built mods in games like Oblivion with the TESC and some stuff in Fallout games. So I do have a level of understanding. But it’s niche. And none of it really translates to this task I’ve started.

Can anyone guide me to a good simple starting resource that can get me kicked off with the basics and I can work my way up? I have a lot to learn and the basics are what I need. I’ve been trying to find good ones but a lot of what I find ends up being outdated information.

I’ve learned the Automod can’t ban users. Only send out messages. I have learned that I basically have to program a bot to do these tasks automatically. Such as banning users when they comment, post, report, basically any action that can trigger a ban. The ban messages to be a wide variety, “You took too long to make this comment, so we’re Banning you.” Or things like “Sorry I don’t have time to ban you, Ban commencing in 7 hours.” But then ban them instantly anyway. It doesn’t have to be those comments specifically but you understand where I’m going with this.

As part of the hilarity there are some users I’d like to mark safe. Such as users that only have vowels in their name. Or users with a max amount of characters in their handle. Just goofy things like that.

It’s all in good fun, none of it is serious. Just a side project I can put some time in and learn how to use the mod tools here on Reddit instead of just doomscrolling lol

Sorry for the wall of text, I just want to make sure people understand I know how ridiculous this task is. I’m just bored and looking for something I can time sink and learn something at the same time!

I am completely new to moderating here on Reddit and I’ve kind of started a task that I may have bitten off more than I can chew. But I’m dedicating and don’t intend on quitting.

I have started a Sub where the sole function is to Ban every Reddit user. It’s complete satire and nothing to take serious! Just something I can use to spread humor and learn how to use the mod tools at the same time.

I’m on IOS mainly. I just learned that the use of the Automod is basically only to be setup on Desktop version. So I have my wife’s Mac that I use. I used to be tech savvy in the Windows 7 days but apparently that’s 20 years ago energy.

Can someone please, direct me to a fairly updated source on how to properly setup the Automod to auto ban, well basically everyone that interacts within the sub. With exceptions, A rare few that won’t be banned for hilarious reasons!

I know my restrictions, they have to comment, cross post, report items, share things. Things like that to trigger the Automod.

I just have a whole gob of questions and really don’t know where to begin or how to set these things up.

Well we just tried to move into our first house.

This’ll probably be long. If it’s TLDR, sorry. I’m ranting. We’ve only ever lived in apartments after moving out of our parents’ houses. This is the first place we would have lived in that was a house. Only renting.

So me and my wife (29M 27F) had a kid and were looking to move back to our roots, be closer to family for the kid. Wholesome shit right? We find a house that is owned by my family. First red flag right there. She’s very interested in getting us into the home since we’re, well you know, Family?

We talk, she says the house is huge, it sits on 4 lots. 4 car garage, 5 bed two bath, 900 a month no utilities. Sounds like a hell of a steal but we live 5 hours way so we video call a walkthrough. The house seems ok. A little dirty but easy fixes. We’re only renting. No contracts, no signing leases. Just a verbal agreement. \*Thank fucking god.\*

We get to the house as part of Memorial Day, not to move in but see it in person. She said they had to court order a hoarder out of the house that trashed it. They \*”spent 3 months”\* cleaning the house and it was spotless. They say.

We get pulled up to the drive the siding of the house is chipped paint, so the wood is exposed and expanding. The water has been shut off for over a year so all the plumbing was completely seized up besides an outside water faucet. The ACs in the windows were so chock full of dirt and filth it was atrocious. The plumbing in the Jack and Jill bathroom began leaking from the shut off valves. We couldn’t get the city to come out and shut the water off because they’d already closed and went home. So the plumber came. The valves are old and worn, even in the closed position they leaked. The washer hookups also leaked despite being completely closed. Hell the water leaked at the damn meter! The heater supposedly worked. But it had igniter problems and wouldn’t start up on its own. Didn’t want to get it fixed because she couldn’t find the parts. Because she couldn’t read the model or brand. Not my problem. Fix or replace it, you’re the owner.

We let them know of all this. So we go look out in the garage so we can drop some of the initial cleaning supplies off. The garage door doesn’t work. So we go check breakers to see if any maybe tripped. Nope. No god damn breaker box is even in the wall! It’s free floating breakers with RAW COPPER WIRE on the L1/L2 Legs! What the fuck!? The yard has a bunch of bits of plastic laid out everywhere. Trampoline springs imbedded in the backyard, glass and general debris.

So naturally we made a whole list of things we said need addressed. We said we’d be ok with taking on Painting, Trim, carpet. Try and help offset the cost because we wanted to make this work. Cosmetic shit right, as long as she took care of what she was legally obligated to. We \*\*Immediately\*\* got pushback. Said she is already paying a lot for the plumber fixes. And doesn’t intend on fixing the electrical or getting this place professionally cleaned. My wife found black mold in the.. fairly new Samsung fridge? Super nice fridge. But it had food and filth still in the shelves and drawers. It was disgusting. The oven, the counters, the walls. Everything needed cleaning. Like beyond what anyone would expect from a new tenant to have to clean. The bathtub was so irreparably stained it would need to be painted or replaced. The vanity soaked in water was definitely going to harbor mildew and mold now. She said she wart going o replace that either because it was brand new. Not anymore you decrepit bitch!

So we back out. We tell them Kansas state law will require them to return our full hold which was to hold the property until the end of July, that was $1700. She has 14 days to do so. If she doesn’t return it or refuse to return it we’re having paperwork drawn up to take her to court where she WILL be found to owe us 1.5x the amount withheld. She still hasn’t contacted me again.

No here’s where shit gets flat out illegal. Someone I used to go to school with. She was a grade ahead of me, her and her husband owned the house. Sold the house to my family member and when they sold it, the house was immaculate. It looked excellent. That was listed in 2024. That listing is still up.

This bitch immediately puts the house back on the Facebook market place and \*uses my schoolmates pictures to market the house on facebook\*

She’s completely misrepresenting the property because she’s bleeding money left right and center trying desperately to get anyone who doesn’t know their rights to move in. It’s absolutely disgusting behavior. So we’re filling a formal complaint with the city Monday morning. I’ve contacted the sheriff about the entire scenario and will be pushing to get someone from the state to inspect and force them to make the necessary repairs as the owner should be.

The cherry on top if you remember me typing earlier, she court ordered some other filthy pig out of her house. And now she’s about to get court ordered by her next tenant to fix her shit… Well. Not tenant.

I can deal with being lied to. I’m used to it. But this isn’t about that now. It’s about the next person she’s going to take advantage of. It’s that person we’re thinking of.

Know your rights people. It’ll help you from making young mistakes like we made. But we learned fast while we’re only toe deep. The consequences of her actions are on Monday.
