I really struggle to find a solo indoors hobby.

I'm a pretty active person and a lot of my hobbies revolve around people or sports. Problem is when I'm alone or no one is about at home I really struggle with how to fill my time. I used to play video games casually as a kid which was how I spent a lot of my time but not so much now. I'd love to hear peoples suggestions of what they lose their time in and genuinely love doing. I'm not looking for particularly productive hobbies but just something you can pick up, inside and enter a bit of a flow or get lost in for a few hours solo.

Cooking, drawing, sewing, arts and crafts stuff have never interested me enough to stick.

Surveillance state

About 3-5 years ago there was all the outrage of China being a surveillance state and everyone was being watched and there was social credit etc. People were horrified and the idea that everything they do was observed.

With the addition of AI traffic cameras looking into cars and fining people and now AI face scanners in public places looking for people on lists...are we not exactly the same?

The obvious benefit is that you can argue safer roads due to decreased people on their phone and that bad crinimals are more likely to get caught.

Genuine question - do any of you see this as a genuine positive thing and are happy for government's to role this out? If it worth the trade off of being constantly watched?

I get that if you don't do anything "wrong" then there's no issue but I can't help but feel this is an incredibly slippery slope that just results in money being funneled to the government through more and more fines for smaller and smaller things. A social tax if you will.

$250 for a therapy session?

I looked into the price of some therapy sessions out of interest and the quotes I got ranged from $220-270 a session for an hour.

Is that standard?

What the heck is that. Literally who can afford that weekly.

Edit: The interest came not from urgently needing therapy but more as a preventative thing and maybe work out some things in the past that honestly don't bother me much. Therefore likely wouldn't be prescribed a mental health plan and rebates.

Tax the rich?

I see lots of public opinion in Australia around taxing the rich and I 100% agree.

And to me, rich doesn't mean people with a couple million income that have done well for themselves or people that make below $350k a year. It means taxing very high next worth individuals more, the mining magnates etc, no one needs that money and if it's allowed to continue, 100% everything eventually funnels up and there's nothing left for anyone else.

Also taxing our minerals I think is obviously the way to go to fund and improve our public services.

However, whilst this sentiment exists publicly and I hear tax the rich all of the time, I don't hear anything around what happens with that money. Basically just that it goes to the government...fantastic... as if the government doesn't already get enough tax money.

Whats the perception around how this helps the every day person, will we get taxed less? I doubt it.

So we would just end up with the government stealing half of the bottom 80%s money and even more of the top earners. It just moves the problem from billionaires being the problem why no one can survive, to the government.

I want to see policies that free up SIGNIFICANT amounts of spending power for the every day Australian and I'm just not seeing any.

Rules to deep life satisfaction

For those of you that have a deep enjoyment of life, what are some rules that guide your life so that you wake up excited most days?

Particularly interested in hearing from people that have created a sense of excitement for life that haven't always had that.

I've heard things like read regularly, talk to strangers, goal setting, having hobbies, being present, do one new thing per month, exercise regularly, always have challenges.

I'm curious to hear about simple things that make a huge difference.

Why isn't roller promoted more?

I've just watched a documentary about less and less Canadians and people around the world playing the game we all love, for one main reason - it's rediculously expensive.

Why does the nhl, bauer, and ccm not promote roller hockey waaaay more? It's principally a different version of the same sport, all the gear is the same companies and every roller player I know watches nhl.

It's way more accessible and it's literally a fraction of the price. Can be played worldwide much easier as well.

To play ice you need $5-10k a year minimum and access to a rink. (edit - some significantly cheaper).

To play roller you literally need $200-500 of equipment and a sports hall. Hell, a carpark can suffice.

Growth in roller = more equipment sold for the big companies and way more nhl fans.

It also filters players into ice in a much more affordable way which means we see more talent.

It seems like a no brainer?

Advice

Looking for advice from anyone on here that's an elite level player.

I only have access to 2-3 sessions a week and there's no high level or even any level coaches in my area. Most players are quite casual too.

I'd like to play in Narch or in pro divisions within the next 5-6 years.

I also don't have space to practice shooting etc that much but can work on other skills, that's easy enough.

My question is, how can I improve my hockey iq and know what to do and when without access to the high level coaching or much high level competition? Do I watch footage etc and study players? Is there videos?

I want to be one of those players that makes everyone else better as well which is only hockey iq...

Can I do this with limited practice and coaching or am I cooked?

Appreciate any and all advice
