I have never been a huge fan of this route out of Croydon but safety in numbers makes it ok. There has been 1 collision that I can recall over 20 years so mabe safety in numbers
Please sign this petition I am profoundly dismayed and devastated at the news that the Council's cycle training scheme has been cancelled without notice or consultation.
For many years, this scheme has been a cornerstone of safe, active travel in Croydon. Its abrupt withdrawal puts residents at risk and undermines the Council’s own active travel, climate and public health commitments.
Bug Hill offers a demanding climb in the other direction and demands reasonable skill on the descent - I use it as a bench mark climb if I am feeling the urge, which tbh is seldom the case!
I get a bit of push back for posting cycling vids here but by now people can spot them and scroll on past if it isn't of interest. Every Saturday out for 3.5 hours of exercise punctuated by a cake stop and a chat with friends is a relatively harmless way for someone late into retirement to enjoy life - I like other kinds of bike riding but always come back to the club that has offered me community over 20+ years. As Croydon Council commits cycling infrastructure vandalism ripping out and laying waste to protected cycle lanes while incurring a £200k + repayment plan and a freeze on a further £2m TFL improvement plan, down the road on the weekend London cyclists' escape into Surrey lanes Reigate seems to have created a not perfect but at least workable corridor to Reigate Heath.

Waddon Labour Councillors Ellily, Rowenna and Sam have campaigned on ASB, graffiti and leaks in this underpass. They have also had the police down for walkabouts. They want TfL and the Council to work together to ultimately get rid of it and replace it with safe surface level routes. My own focus is the lack of connectivity and legacy of unfinished or diminished cycle infrastructure in the borough.

Which of those below are you in favour of?
I was interested to hear that the council is setting up a motorists' forum.
Driving, riding a bike walking and public transport are regular parts of my life so I experience the roads from different perspectives and understand that each comes with its own challenges.
I am not sure of the problems the proposed forum is seeking to solve but I have a genuine interest in how local decisions affect everyday road users and of course pedestrians.
Maybe the forum could be an opportunity for local people to have their voices heard, and I would welcome the chance to share my experiences, listen to others, and contribute to making our roads safer and more practical for everyone. I feel it might be difficult to consider transport without considering climate, air quality and health.
I'm not sure what the agenda is behind establishing such a forum but if it can encompas all forms of transport but not in isolation it could be worthwhile.
You will detect a Mancunian rather than Croydonian slant to this post. Nevertheless in the interest of bringing broader perspectives on our own recent elections I invite you to ponder these questions do some research and compare and contrast. On nextdoor, a not to be repeated phrase on these hallowed grounds, the mods and their lackeys dumped me on a similar post within 5 minutes - I like to think they were frit!
What is relatability in a politician and why is it important? I am probably not like most people – I follow politics and I am interested in campaigns and finding those magic ingredients that see one contender across the line and not the other.
I don’t think it about how much or how well your social media plays but maybe more like does the candidate seem genuine? Do they pass the test of someone who appears capable and in whose company you feel hopeful and happy?
From what I have seen Bev Craig, candidate for Mayor of Greater Manchester ticks those boxes – I would be interested to hear if others agree or where they feel she misses the mark?
Clearly she needs skills and abilities beyond connection and likability but in no particular order here is what I think she brings to the ‘relatability’ stakes. Bev would most likely be great company at a Manchester party: Why?
She seems genuinely into the area and its culture and feels that she owes much to it in shaping her own life.
She comes across as personable and "from the community" and that background makes her pretty down-to-earth, not Westminster-polished.
She’s worked across a lot of areas, health, trade union and higher education. At a party that means she can probably talk politics but I the feel she is at home with music, social issues, Manchester history sport and everyday stuff.
She looks like the energy for the room - her recent campaign messaging is all about progress, high streets, jobs, and "Greater Manchester taking control of its own future". The optimism and pride is visible and exactly the vibe you want.
She makes me think warm, northern, passionate, a good storyteller, and someone who actually goes to local events rather than just photo-ops.
Of course there is much more to being a successful politician but being a fully qualified person is probably a good start.
