Has anyone here had experience with a Tesla trade-in in Germany and deregistering the old car afterwards?
Tesla told me that they do not handle the deregistration (Abmeldung) of my old car and that I have to do it myself at the vehicle registration office.
My question is about the procedure on the delivery day:
I’ll drive my currently registered old car to the Tesla delivery center.
I’ll hand the car over to Tesla as a trade-in and receive my new Tesla.
What happens with the license plates?
Do I need to remove the plates myself before handing the car over and then take them to the registration office for the Abmeldung?
Or do I hand the car over to Tesla with the license plates and get the plates back so I can deregister the car myself?
How did you handle this in practice?
I obviously don’t want to deregister the car beforehand, because then I wouldn’t be able to legally drive it to the Tesla delivery center.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this process in Germany. Thanks!

I want to trade in my current car, and according to Tesla’s website, the estimated trade-in value is €4,900. In addition, I plan to make a €6,000 down payment and finance the rest.
A Tesla employee told me that about 1 to 1.5 months before delivery, they will inspect my current car in person and then provide the final trade-in value.
What concerns me is this: what happens if, after the inspection, Tesla decides my car is worth less than the estimated €4,900 for example, €3,900?
Would I simply have to pay the €1,000 difference? And if I don’t agree with their final offer, can I refuse the trade-in or even cancel my order?
Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience.
