Etiquette question

A couple of days ago I joined a larger road and was immediately after passed by two cyclists, we all said good morning as they passed (most cyclists greet one way or other around here).

They were clearly going faster than I but looked back a couple of times as if to see if I was trying to catch up, which I wasn't. Should I have waved or something to signal all was OK? We were by then perhaps 50m apart.

Learning to climb - update

After my post https://www.reddit.com/r/cycling/comments/1vkipzi/learning_to_climb/ I've done my climbing route two more times, and both times without having to stop on the steep part (but with a break when I get to the top of that).

As I am using my lowest gear (34-32) I made myself go slower, 8-8.5km/h instead of 10km/h and now only feel almost completely out of breath - _and_ strain in the legs - the perfect balance, technique helps :-/

I today also got a HR monitor and I spent the whole steep part at 160+, peaking at 169 which is rather a lot when you are pushing 60 years.

I had a closer look at the map, and there is 700m raising 70m in height - not Alpine, but plenty for me, this is the limit of what I can do now. I feel a relief when I get to the 8% road sign.

TL;DR: Climbing _is_ hard, but technique can make it more manageable

Thanks to all for suggestions to last post.

A segunda opção faz sentido?

2FA on Segurança Social Direta

I have had PW-only login for the above, but it now insists I verify with 2FA - only it never sends me a confirmation email.

I know the flakyness of many systems here, but have anyone else managed?

Changing from Outlook to Gmail on iPhone

I am trying to help my ageing father-in-law migrating from Android to an iPhone. He is used to access his Hotmail account through GMail, but for some reason his email account was attached to Outlook after the migration.

Is there a way to change email access over to GMail without knowing the PW for the Hotmail account? Somehow the migration managed...

Does a 12-34 cassette exist for my Triban 520 Gravel?

I have a Triban 520 Gravel from 2024 (11s Shimano 105, as far as I can see the spec listed in the article below). I am generally happy with it but find I could at times use slightly lower gears (a bit closer together too), whereas I don't think I have used the top gear in anger.

Shimano does a 11-34 which would be an improvement, but I would happily sacrifice the top gear for closer spacing. Hence, does a 12-34 exist that would work?

Just wondered.

When I ask it is because I later had a summer job which involved 45km on bike + 6 hours walking per day, and I could _not_ eat sufficiently - I needed to buy a belt to keep my trousers up after a week.

I only did touring as a teen in Denmark, age 13 and 14, with a friend; we were on heavy bikes with 3-speed hub gear and a far too heavy trailer. When not visiting family we camped wild and from memory we largely ate rye bread with tinned mackerel or liver paté washed down with milk. Did 1200km in 5 weeks.

I am cycling around the Vilamoura area and wonder if anyone _knows_ what the law say about the use of bike lanes (as opposed to their own opinion)?

There are a number of bike lanes around here, but many of them are very poorly designed, too narrow to share with pedestrians, poorly maintained, not really signposted (as in _is_ this meant to be a bike lane?) and I also see many cyclist using the road as a consequence.
