Does anyone experience amaurosis fugax after OHS?

Hey there! First time posting in this sub.

I had an aortic root replacement two years ago. Everything went well and I'm feeling mostly very well.

However, since day 4 after the surgery, I developed two symptoms that occasionally occur even to this day.

  1. Migraine with aura. The zigzaggy sparkling lines that appear in both eyes. Sometimes a headache follows, sometimes not. An episode will last about 30 min. They have got less frequent over timr.

  2. Amaurosis fugax. Temporary partial blindness in one eye. These episodes can range from a small "afterimage" spot in my vision to covering a third of my vision.

It occurs only in one eye at a time, and there's no telling which eye it will be.

It can be hard to determine a trigger, but it happens more often after exercise.

My cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and neuro do not seem very worried about either, and the symptoms haven't gotten worse, so I just deal with it, but I was wondering if others have experienced similar symptoms.

It can be frustrating to try to explain symptoms to people that can't experience what I'm seeing.

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Another kind of unbanned cheater: The "I've lost a few times so I deserve to cheat and gain rating again" cheater

Previously I introduced a typical example of a "revenge cheater", someone who cheats in rematches to feel good about themselves.

Despite over 3,000 games, he had not been banned, but through the power of social media, he was banned within 24 hours of posting on Reddit.

Today, I am introducing the "I played a few games on my own and it didn't go well, so let's cheat" cheater.

The below account has over 5,000 games, and has seen remarkable rating gains in just a year.

https://www.chess.com/member/tygkfj784

Does he cheat every game? Certainly not, but as you can see from his game accuracy scores and his graphs, every time he loses a few games, he will go on incredible runs of multiple 98% accuracy victories. Impressive stuff.

See the screenshot for just one of these incredible performance streaks.

As I mentioned, the account has over 5,000 games yet chesscom is seemingly unable to detect this person's cheating.

Again, I'd like to emphasise that I think chesscom's cheating detection is all but useless, and that cheating is absolutely rampant on this platform.

The ones that are easy to spot, like the above account, still go unbanned for years.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Edit: I also believe that this obvious cheater won't easily be banned because he's a diamond member, and chesscom doesn't want to hurt their bottom line. This is the sad state of online chess.

Not improving.Am I simply too old?

I want to preface that I made a similar post round 5 months ago, so the previous situation hasn't improved.

For context, my FIDE rating hovers around 1750-1800, and my online Rapid rating has peaked at around 2200 on both platforms.

I study more chess than I used to: I study more openings, practise tactics, play many games both OTB and online, and yet my rating has completely stagnated, even slightly decreased.

All of my recent tournaments have been mediocre to bad.

My peak online rating is nearly the same as it was almost a year ago, and I lost nearly 100 points due to tilt recently, unable to get it back.

(Tilt is a big issue I have, and work stress exacerbates it)

I am turning 32 soon, and although I love chess and love playing it, I feel like I should put my effort into things where I can actually still improve.

(I started chess at age 25)

I'm not sure if I've peaked at chess, but it starts to feel like it.

My competitive nature doesn't allow me to go to tournaments but not study to get better.

I can't play rated games without caring about the rating, for some reason.

I am kind of torn on the issue, and was hoping to get some feedback from other adult improvers.

Will you sell your eMaxis Slim investments now that it will include SpaceX in its portfolio?

So I, likely many others, am invested in the eMaxis Slim All country excluding Japan fund.

MSCI has confirmed the early index inclusion of SpaceX after the IPO, so we will be left to hold part of the bag when this inevitably comes crashing down.

Will you guys be selling your investments and move them into less risky indices or other assets?

Chesscom's inability to detect cheaters is a huge problem.

Edit: thanks to the power of social media, the account that was allowed to cheat for 5 months in over 2,000 games was banned within hours.

Original post:

Reposting here because the main chess sub and the chesscom sub don't like the truth about awful cheating detection to be out there.

This account is a serial "revenge cheater": cheating in every rematch after a loss.

https://www.chess.com/member/K-ronte4

I already knew this account was going to cheat the moment I accepted the rematch. When playing online a lot, you develop an instinct for it.

I just wanted to collect data as evidence.

This account plays perfect games every time he rematches.

Let's have a look at the accuracy when a rematch was accepted by the opponent:

- against Megaboef (2189): 99.8

- against Gembulgembulg (2335) : 99.8

- against AwielBawiel (2169): 98.9, 99.9, 95.8

- against macasil0527 (2106): 93.5, 98.4

- against AC-pro (2172): 92.1

- against rattie1 (2189): 97.5

- against lexa77 (2247): 97.8

- against damsite (2198): 98.2

- against Viktor_Getman (2192): 99.2, 99.7, 98.2

Etc. Etc.

I think I've made my point.

How is it possible that this account is over 5 months old with over 2,000 games when it's this obvious that they're cheating?

Is automated cheating detection that bad?

This is not the first time I've reported a serial cheater. Last time they only got banned after I posted it on Reddit, so here I am.

Online chess is basically dead if even obvious cheaters like this can't get a quick ban.

How is this possible?

Cambridge Springs vs. Botvinnik in the Semi-Slav as Black

I started changing to a Semi-Slav repertoire against d4 a year ago, and followed Shankland's Chessable recommendations with playing ...Nbd7 after 5.Bg5 and going for a Cambridge Springs setup.

However, I often get very unpleasant positions, especially when White decides to sac one or even two pawns for a massive lead in development and a big space advantage.

(Shankland calls these positions something along the lines of "probably fine for Black")

I recently started studying the Botvinnik (...dxc4) as an alternative and while extremely double-edged, the lines are very concrete and relatively easy to remember.

How has everyone else fared in these lines? Any other factors to take into account? I haven't tried the Botvinnik in Classical yet so my opinion might change.

My rating is around 1850 FIDE by the way.
