New homeowner here. What's the one home maintenance task I should stay on top of and never ignore until it becomes expensive?

I'm trying to build good habits early and avoid learning costly lessons the hard way. What maintenance item has saved you the most money, or what do you wish someone had told you when you first bought a house?

What’s one home improvement project you wouldn’t do again?

I’m curious from both homeowners and contractors - what’s a project you thought would be worth it at the time, but turned out not to be?

Could be anything: flooring, kitchen remodels, bathrooms, landscaping, smart home upgrades, etc.

Also interested in what you’d recommend instead if you had to do it again.

For painted cabinets, what wood/material are you using most often in 2026?

I'm seeing a lot of different recommendations for painted cabinetry: maple, MDF, HDF, birch, etc.

For those building cabinets regularly, what are you using most often today and why?

Are clients prioritizing cost, durability, smoother paint finishes, or something else?
